Been studying them and watching footage of them. They actually look a lot better than people will be thinking. They play at a good pace, knock the ball round very well, and have a few players who may cause us problems.
I think they will give us a game, and with 1000 or so loud fan’s behind them, may give them a boost. I don’t want us to play a weak side like in the other cup games, or we might come unstuck.
They look far more professional an outfit than anyone would think and we will have to be on our game fully.
I really like what I have seen of them as a non league club. Their people’s enthusiasm is refreshing.
19 October 2025 at 11:13 pm #206320Football’s all about levels, a fully fighting fit Wigan should win but at the moment we’re not.
I just hope Lowe doesn’t feel the need to give anyone a 2 week break between league games.
There’s an EFL trophy game on the 11th he can give the young lads run out.
So a message to Lowe, please don’t disrespect a trophy that’s given us the greatest ever day in the clubs history
21 October 2025 at 8:10 pm #206329Agree , the FA cup is sacrosanct in my view. , play the best team available and do everything to get a crowd in and aim to progress to the third round.
The midweek Mickey Mouse cup or EFL
trophy or whatever is now even more a reserve team run out than it ever was especially since the premier league reserves joined in and my view is that they just scrap it or revert back to league clubs only with a straight knockout format.
I heard once that the alleged cost of putting a game in at the ground was as around 55k which is very steep and little wonder costs are being cut for these meaningless games.23 October 2025 at 5:52 am #206330I heard once that the alleged cost of putting a game in at the ground was as around 55k which is very steep and little wonder costs are being cut for these meaningless games.
There’s nothing wrong with cost cutting but turning the scoreboard off and closing every turnstile bar 2 so there’s like 2k-3k on and your queuing ?.
That bellend stupid EFL trophy is pathetic and should be scrapped altogether, no one’s arsed till the semi’sIt might have been a good idea 30 – 40 year ago but times have changed.
It became laughable when they decided to expand it and add U21 sides it became farcical.
It should be
No u21, straight KO straight to pens. I’d sooner see top non league thrown in say teams that missed out in the previous year play offs
24 October 2025 at 2:31 pm #206333in all but name it is a reserve team trophy on a par with A team games from the late 70s and early 1980s and thats why supporters have essentially ditched it.
I think they should fire it off , look how fresher our lads looked last saturday with a week without a game , it was brought in to give little clubs a chance to play at Wembley which they have now anyway with the play offs.
From a business perspective its a time consuming bore fest ,get rid
2 November 2025 at 6:00 am #206387Well what can I say, firstly give Hemel Hempstead a round of applause because they came here and were desperately unlucky not to come away with a win, only for Tickle and a few last ditch blocks we’d be out.
But let’s concentrate on us, we looked ok till the goal then we struggled. Mullins pen was a shocker and I’ll always say it, no player should miss the goal completely, none.
The sending off, wtf was he thinking ?? honestly schoolboy error but for me our midfield is a ticking time bomb Wright, Cooper Weir ?, it’s as weak as it gets. Absolute devoid of any skill factor resulting in us hitting high up n unders to Saydee and Mullin.
But for me Saydee stunk the place out. The first thing I noticed the size of him. He’s at least a stone plus overweight. I’ve seen footage of him at Portsmouth and he’s no were as big. He was running like the big lad in your class would run at P.E.
He’s clumsy, cannot control the ball or hold the ball up and offers little threat on goal purely due to his lack of mobility and getting in the box.
He seriously gassed on 65-70 minutes so for Pompey fans to say he’ll run all day proves he’s massively overweight. He was a passenger in the latter part of the game and should have gone off but the problem was Mullins hamstring was tight hence he made way.
Now I get Lowe saying he wants exciting football and goals so he opts for the 2 up front approach but Mullin with Saydee is oil & water, they simply do not go together and I’m lost to what Lowes thinking or seeing.
Link up play ? non existent. The distances between the two couldn’t be any further apart, Lowe it doesn’t work m8.
Brenan came on and instantly started to spray the ball and get stuck in along with McManaman and Robinson who made a couple of crucial tackles that kept us in the game.
It says alot about the quality of our side when 3 centre half’s take penalty’s.
On paper bar M.Smith that was our strongest side and Lowe was left with his arms tide behind his back with 10 men so what’s going wrong.
Again I point to the quality of player. This current squad are not good enough and although Lowe threatens to drop and change that’s all fine to say but he doesn’t have the quality to threaten change with.
When it went to pens I noticed Hemel all gee’ing each other up patting each other on the back while 5 of our players walked to the half way line heads down as though they were going to the gallows, sad to see.
A paultry 4000 crowd for an FA Cup tie at home is as bad as it gets.
And well done to the club for closing the supporters bar under the South treated like they don’t exist. I was thinking it was because of the poor ticket sale ? (still no excuse)
Nope,
The room was pre booked for a “Leyland & District Riding Club” event that night so they closed the bar so they could heavily decorate the room in the day while the North Stand bar was open for the away fans I take it?
And that’s were were at,
A club on the downslope,
A club who not give a f*ck about fans,
Owner showing little interest,
A manager struggling to bond with a bunch of average players,
And a club who puts making a few quid renting a room out before their home fans on an FA Cup match day.
I then go under the concourse on the West Stand at half time and you would think you’d see a TV showing half times and reports from grounds.
I looked down the concourse at the TVs hanging up, 2 were showing half time the other 15 20 f**kin advert for shampoo.
You go any away ground underneath the stands there’s half time reports scores on every TV . I’d be interested to hear if it’s the same for the away fans under the North Stand concourse whether their going away thinking “That reminds me, I must stop off and grab some Head & Shoulders”.
Infact there is a good few TVs f**ked and have been for 2 years plus and Danson wants to build ? yeah right. If the clubs that skint I’ve a spare 37″ freeview TV in the loft he can have.
I’ve said it, we’ll be sold in the next 12-18 months. It’s like we’re striping back to the bare bones to show minimal loss to any potential buyers and we’ve a turnover from room hiring at the expense of fans.
There’s a feeling stagnant feeling in the air and less & less fans don’t care and the worse bit of that is, they rarely come back.
The next gen will be lost simply because this club offers far more as a community club (which is great) mid week than it does on the match day experience. But at the end of the day it’s,
Wigan Athletic Football Club
And that’s were the problem lies. We’ve spent so much time and effort getting the community off field social side and women’s football with training and pitch the men’s side and WAFC fans have been pushed aside.
That FA Cup should have been £5 adults £1 kids but there’s more chance of platting a fart than that happening

2 November 2025 at 8:19 am #206390You’re correct CW.
We have now become Wigan Apathetic !
Yesterday was embarrassing.
2 November 2025 at 11:00 am #206397My opinions been stated above. Squad is void of quality. Weakest midfield we’ve had for a long time. Mullen only real goalscorer but being played completely wrong. Hes a box finisher but we expect him to pick up the ball up 50 yds out and do the running that Saydee can’t do!!! ….I mentioned it last week Saydee looks f##### after 50 mins,..If we break quick hes way behind and not a hope of getting on the end of any balls played in the box..Yesterday was proof that our crap league form isn’t a fluke……home fortress????…..Another team we make look like Barcelona. Why oh why J Smith loaned out and we bring in Raphael????…..If Matt Smith gets a ban then I can see us setting up for 0-0 at Exeter ….and hope. No one who has watched us recently can now cite teething, squad familiarity, knowing his best 11 bull……..we have got a poor squad without midfield creativity, poor forwards and a defence that starting to look shaky..I’m surprised we are 13th cos Saturday was relegation performance written all over it. Well done to Hemel Hempstead……didn’t deserve to lose…..fabulous performance…….
2 November 2025 at 2:30 pm #206398I’ve always sided with Lowe but starting with 2 forwards and none on the bench wasn’t good tactics it was more about scoring goals
If for what ever reason had we have lost Mullin or Saydee early doors it meant the other would have to stay on for 2 hours which Saydee did and it showed.
4-5-1 would have been far far with M.Smith starting behind a loan striker
2 November 2025 at 6:57 pm #206399Oh and one last thing that made my p!ss boil,
We get a dangerous free kick just on the edge of the box near the end of normal time, prefect for someone to bend or belt one and what the fook do we do ?, loft one to the far post.
And at the time Wier took it Hemel had a one man wall. If that comes back off the keeper or woodwork anything can happen but not us, total bellend choice, gutless.
Seriously that nearly made me head for the exit.
2 November 2025 at 8:09 pm #206400Fully agree with ALL the above posts and comments.
As a club, we are in a right mess. The performance yesterday was not acceptable and I honestly believe if we had a real chairman who is ‘present’ like other clubs, the corner flag photo would be getting used tomorrow. It was not acceptable at all. If I were Lowe, I’d walk. He isn’t suited to this club, and the club isn’t suited to him. If I were him, I couldn’t be arsed with it. I’d walk, enjoy Christmas and a bit of studio work, and then get in somewhere around January time and go again. As it stands, we’re an awful club to be at. I think he realises it too. I get the feeling he was sold a utopia…like someone who buys a Spanish Villa off plan. Then when they go out to actually see what they’ve bought, its unfinished and the Pool is badly tiled and leaks. Hence his rant about us not being in the “…times of Cook, Richardson…and Martinez”. I think thats what that was about. Someone in the know with football business connections has told me that dispute our owner, Wigan Athletic FC hasn’t a pot to piss in. We are just ticking over as a club. If this is all the case, I wouldn’t blame Lowe if he walked away. There is definitely things going on that we are unaware of at this club. The body language of the players, Lowe’s increasingly blotchy looking face…he’s aged. So did Shaun Maloney as well. He always looked stressed to hell as well. Like Lowe does now. We’ve become a graveyard for managers. And its down to who is running the club and how it is being ran. Theyve also got Rioch hanging over them like the grim reaper. I don’t like that at all. Any old school manager wouldn’t put up with it. I listen to a load of ex managers on podcasts, and I can tell you, none of them are in favour of a Director Of Football working above a manager. A manager should have 100% full control on signings and anything else to do with the team and not be dictated to by someone else. Thats crap that is. I wouldn’t work like that. I think this is only going to end one way with Lowe…I think we all know. And then we will replace him with someone else who is happy to work with Rioch leaning over them. Cue a repeat of the current situation. Until these things change, we won’t change.
Yesterday, we were abysmal. Its been a while since Ive flipped out at a game and gone berserk. I did yesterday, it was so so poor. If I was Lowe, it would tell me the players have little respect for me, and it would also tell me theyre shite. If we were an Italian club our fans would be confronting the players and coach at the training ground. It was a disgrace.
Ah yes, our ‘support’. What fucking support? 4020 on with 900 and odd Hemel Hempstead? Thats atrocious. Absolutely shocking. I know for a fact quite a few so called ‘big Latics Supporters’ chose to go to Everton yesterday to watch the rugby, instead of going to Latics. Now, as we are so shite, I know nobody can blame them. But are they proper Latics supporters doing that? Its disappointing, to be honest. We have Burton at home on a Tuesday night later this month. I predict that will be an even lower crowd for that. About 3500 maybe? It’ll get that bad soon they’ll only be opening one stand.
This is how much we have fell. We are bloody dying as a club. And it’s rotten to the core.

Thats a disgrace about the South Stand Bar. And the thing with the TV’S as well. I think we’ve a 26 inch PYE in the loft they can have as well. Regarding the away end, Ive been in there when we had free tickets for the rugby a couple of months ago. The signs above the toilets have been smashed to bits…away fans. (I wonder which ones eh?)
I thought how bad it must seem to visiting supporters. All around this stadium, there are things broken and falling to bits. This owner is tight as cramp. A billionaire for Christ’s sake.
There is absolutely no closeness between the club and the support. People have walked away…they ARE walking away. We used to be a great community club, but its all gone. We aren’t the same club we were before the Administration in 2020. We died then. We might have the same badge and stadium, but we are a completely different club.
We will end up turfed out the stadium as well in a year or two, when we are sold. I can see that happening. Probably end up in the National League North, paying rent to the Warriors to play at the Arena. Would not surprise me one bit.
3 November 2025 at 4:48 pm #206402I kinda disagree the community of the club is excellent charity work, community projects, women’s team, gathering sponsors all brilliant but that’s all on the outside of the football club.
As for football sports side, the football day experience ? before the game, inside the stadium the whole feel and look of it, it feels more like a church fate thrown together with cellotape done on as cheap as possible. I’m waiting for bring your own toilet roll or charity stewarding request.
The EFL games with closed entrances to the seats, no scoreboard, no announcer ? That’s taking the f**kin piss oh and 1 turn style open. I actually queued for 1 game with about 3k on.
I’ll bet you it won’t be long before the South Stand closes for good.
Clubs on a massive down curve with regular adverts for job roles at the club, you gotta ask yourself why did the last person leave.
But for me the total lack of investment on field shows little ambition on the pitch. I think they said 25-26 we’d be aiming at a top 10 team budget ? what I say to that is
Bollocks
If your telling me there’s at least 14 clubs with less I’ll show me mucker outside The Moon. Lowe needs money he needs investment and any Tickle money or potential Hughes sell on needs to be given straight to him.
This “Well the money’s going back into running the club” is little comfort to a manager or fans. We do not expect millions pumped in by a super rich owner we’ve gone past that thought but sell on reinvest is what we desperately need.
We need to show up and coming lads our club is the place to come to give you a successful career.
And one is
Brenan starts every game, gains huge experience, improves, sell-on invest back in the squad because he has it in the locker he just needs minutes and experience like Aasgaard.
There’s 3 or 4 more similar Millar been another. Of course he’ll f**k up granted but I’d sooner give Brenan chances than pay no doubt decent weekly loan money for Cooper.
I read a Swansea fan on FB say “I’d sooner have Cooper back” regarding their current midfield performances and one Swansea fan replied:-
“You seriously gotta be taking the p*ss, glad to see the back of him”
