14 November 2013 at 12:27 pm #123437One for all the quizzers
Who were the opponents for the first game Latics played as a Football League club ;)14 November 2013 at 5:14 pm #123446Leeds?
14 November 2013 at 5:16 pm #123447Being serious….I’m guessing it isn’t Hereford because we had a few games left to play after being elected?
Similar trickery to the first away team to win at The JJB question?
14 November 2013 at 5:21 pm #123448It’s an obvious answer, but I would say Tranmere in the League Cup, assuming ypu mean the first competetive match.
14 November 2013 at 5:53 pm #123450it wasn’t Kazan, that’s for sure.
do you have the programme?

We were elected on June 2nd 1978 after a re-count. So the next game was a pre-season friendly and i’ll be buggered if I can remember who it was against.I was at Hereford for that game and the day just flew by in a drunken haze. Incidently we were also the last team elected as the rules changed a few years later and automatic promotion came in.
14 November 2013 at 11:04 pm #123457Horwich RMI away 26th July 1978 and yes I have the programme :P

I was 13 actualy Mr Arkey but I am not surprised you find that hard to believe. Horwich RMI was prob closer to our house in Aspull than Springfield Park was. I went on my bike and this was a first and last time I used this mode of transport for an away game :P
Bronx you are correct the programme was an A4 sheet printed on light blue paper and quite a rare programme to have.15 November 2013 at 10:28 pm #123489We were elected on June 2nd 1978 after a re-count.
