The loyal band of followers at Skelmersdale United are like a breath of fresh air with their dedication and loyalty to the club. They are having a fantastic season, and as well as being second in their league with FIVE games in hand (due to cup commitments), they have drawn a ‘plum’ tie away at Luton Town in the FA Trophy. They’ve already beaten Boston United and Guiseley from the Blue Square league, which is higher than them. It would be superb if Skem went to Luton, who are 5th in the Blue Square Premiership (conference) and get a result.
I’ve not been on Skem this season, due to our homes clashing with theirs, but my friends who are avid followers and helpers at the club tell me they’ve got a great young side together. A couple of weeks ago, their manager threw in a load of youngsters for a midweek cup game……they won 7-1!
Skem suffer from low support, averaging around 120, but more are making the effort to get behind them. There’s definitely a ‘buzz’ about the club this season.
The passion they have is refreshing.
Lad who got a trial from Golborne Sports scored 3, had 2 assists and got MOM in that game. 7-1 v Prescot in the Dootson Cup.
Mate of mine went,giving the lad some support. Said it was a half decent set up these days and 4 of you can get a table there, with a meal and a few beers included for a ton between you.

Set your sights higher my friends. Its on par with you already drive round in top of the range merc and suddenly decide to park it up in your garage and bring your rusty old Hillman Imp out, cos it brings back good memories.
Whenever I watch an English first or second division match on telly I give up after 20 mins as it looks like the players are playing in flip flops and kicking a beach ball about. Woeful football just woeful. :woohoo:

When I said we don’t have a supporters club, it was not aimed at anybody in the slightest. It was merely stating that since we moved to the JJB/DW stadium, we haven’t actually had a bona-fide ‘supporters club’, as we did at Springfield Park. We spent the best part of our time in the Premiership with a SPORTS HALL as a makeshift supporters bar. And yes, I WAS a member of the supporters club. But to be honest, I didn’t like the sports hall as a bar. It was only when the club got to the point where corporate interest had wained, that they decided to ‘allow’ every day fans to use the South Stand bar again, something we hadn’t been able to do since getting in the Premiership, unless you paid a premium on top of your season ticket.
You finished with a good old dig at betting that I am not a supporters club member. No, I am currently NOT. Why? Because why should I? I don’t go to away games very often these days, and if I do it’s by train or car, so no need to book on official coaches. And I get into the South Stand bar because I’m a season ticket holder. So to be honest, I’ve not really any benefit from being a member, have I? If I’m wrong, please tell me.
I was always a member of the supporters club, and still have old cards signed by the likes of Joe Mills and Chris Coffey. I remember all the old gang, quite a few of who are still involved, such as Caroline, Mick, Danny, Spike etc. I know they all work hard….I wasn’t actually aiming a dig at ANYBODY, I was talking bricks and mortar.
Oh and at £3.50 a pint, the South Stand bar is just another money making exercise. I’d sooner do any drinking away from the ground, as the ale quality is terrible, and it’s a rip off. They only ‘allowed’ us mere mortals, the bread and butter of the club, back into the bar so they could milk our cow-hide paper holders. That’s wallets, to the layman.

My initial response to that was going to be me coming on here and discussing at great length, whether or not it was correct to conclude that LOUDMOUTH blue is something resembling a womens genitals.
But then I thought about it, and imagined the old man that LOUDMOUTHBLUE is, sitting there in his carpet slippers, sucking on a Werther’s Original. I thought that to do so, may shock him into choking on said boiled caramel sweet, meaning that he actually chokes to death and due to the festive period, it would be January before anybody finds him, lying in a pool of his own excrement and blood.
