16 September 2009 at 4:19 pm #8865complete with roundaboutsEveryone goes on about ’roundabouts’.
But they are great. No traffic lights=no traffic congestion.
FACT NO 2: Skem has the quickest average traffic flow in Europe for a town it’s size, after the Autobahn system, in Germany.
FACT NO 3: Brenda Spencer comes from Skem.
FACT NO 4: As does Bill Kenyon.
See, us Skemmers have MADE this club what it is. :D
Await’s backlash……

I disagree.
No worse than anywhere else, and it does have a lot of greenery in and around it. Many times as a teenager, we got our bottles of bud and our whisky-sour mash, and spent a good summers night on the Beacon hillside, with our chicks, basking in the light of the sun, coming in over Liverpool bay, whilst the sea on the horizon glazed like a sheet of metal
It almost sounds like a song.
Skem, for me, was a good place to grow up. It wasn’t penned in by industry back then, and 5 mins walk and you were in the countryside.
16 September 2009 at 5:15 pm #8875Funny that Truelatic hasn’t responded to this thread with is unrelenting love for the bitch that is Thatcher.
Inow feel sick typing that word
16 September 2009 at 11:08 pm #8909Sorry dave, but Skelmersdale is an absolute shytethole.
I work there, have family there and own a house there, but there is no way i would live there.
There is nothing whatsoever good about the place, it was only built to house the overflow of scum coming out of liverpool.16 September 2009 at 11:38 pm #8910Sorry dave, but Skelmersdale is an absolute shytethole.

We don’t want you sat on the fence even if it is your first post.
I take it fom that, that you are not keen on Skelmersdale.17 September 2009 at 11:10 am #8929Notice he WORKS there.
Good enough for you to go and take a job, eh?
Skem was NOT built ‘for the overflow’. That’s an old chestnut.
NEW Skem was built for the overflow. OLD Skem, where I am from, dates back to Roman times and was mentioned in the Doomsday book. (True)
All you pie-eaters see is Tanhouse and Digmoor. Well, if your being like that, there are enough places in Wigan that are a dump.
17 September 2009 at 3:53 pm #8956`Old Skem’, Skelmerdale, comes from “Skjaldmarrs’ Dale” recorded as `Skalmeresedel in 1136 is of Nordic origin. `Old Skem’ is a small mining village in the parish of Ormskirk.
History lesson over. :P
Used to work near old skem on to west gillibrands estate and I can say the people of old skem are top notch. :D

Yep. Old Skem is a different entity.
Old Skem V Ormskirk was always ‘on top’, as Danny Dyer would say. I remember a few times when I was about 16, when a few lads who me and my mate knew were on their way to Ormskirk for a kick off, armed with bats, clubs, chains, etc. Feckin crazy! (Did I go? Did I hell. Mad gets)
A night out in ‘Ormy’ was always a bit dodgy. Good for pickin up a little slapper, though. (Edge Hill Uni bar was like a knockin shop)Actually recall my mate going up to some lad at a bar, who’d just got a pint. Picked it up off the bar, took a drink, and then went “Cheers!” and walked off with it! The faggot said nowt. Can’t imagine he’d have got away with that in Wigan, though. Or anywhere else for that matter.
17 September 2009 at 7:54 pm #8983Same could be said about Higher Ince and Lower Ince surely 8-)
17 September 2009 at 10:55 pm #8999To be fair old Skem is’nt as bad as new skem.
