18 January 2011 at 11:26 pm #56001Spookily enough i was thinking today who owns all the parking areas around the DW. Many of us on here have been to most stadiums in England and i cannot recall a ground with as much parking space as we have. Question is who owns the land as WAFC own the stadium. Did the council retain all the surrounding land or did mr Whelan buy a certain amount of land in which to erect the DW.
19 January 2011 at 11:29 am #56015…as WAFC own the stadium.I think I am right in saying that, despite saying that he was going to sign it over to the football club ‘within 8 weeks’ at the start of last season, DW himself (or one of his companies) owns the stadium and WAFC and WRLFC both pay him rent.
19 January 2011 at 3:06 pm #56028a very tricky one to understand this
but i see it this way
im sure whelco owned the stadium which is run by the whelan family
but in order for whelan to sell wafc eventually he must sell the stadium as well to the potential purchaser
hence whelan had to turn over ownership to the club who he owns himself
thats so no compicated issues could arise
and why latics dont pay rent and our lodgers do19 January 2011 at 10:48 pm #56043Lodgers “Rent”! What 10% of their gate receipts !.

20 January 2011 at 1:56 pm #56091Hotel on a retail park, yeah makes sense that, Build it on sinking land like the bargain bucket stadium and make it look even more ridiculous. Middle of nowhere, Unless you get people wanting to stay who like night fishing on the canal or like having their cars robbed by the nice folk of march green. Whelan should be getting his priorities right, Has he forgotten that he is the chairman of a football club who are struggling for crowds, players, points and status. This joke of a man has to go and earn his money out of other mugs. He did what he said he would do 15 years ago however he has lied about what he is going to do for the last 10 years, The blinkered people seem to think he is god. He aint, Who knows what would have happened if he didnt step in, someone else could have come in, or just maybe Wigan Athletic would have just been ok anyway. They had done ok for the last 70 years. With football the way it is with the tv monies and that we would have been ok. Nobody could have forseen the the sky boom so who knows. All i do know is that Whelan has to go. He doesnt care about us he never has, all he wants to do is make money.
20 January 2011 at 3:33 pm #56098They had done ok for the last 70 years. Are you mad? The Club was passing buckets round to stay afloat.
Then, as now, there weren’t many people queueing up to compete with him to buy it.
I assume you read the bit this week about him effectively writing off the £50m that the club owes him?

Well, thanks to Whelan’s shrewd financial management of the club over the last 15 years, there’s no need to. :roll:20 January 2011 at 4:01 pm #56108well maybe ten to twelve years but last three have been nothing but shyte for the supporters
agree with you on one thing whelan as done ok financially
though at the expense of atracting people to watch the shyte on display20 January 2011 at 4:01 pm #56109they should be passing buckets around dw stadium now

though at the expense of atracting people to watch the shyte on displayI think you are possibly the dumbest poster on any Wigan Athletic message board. And that is some feat.
