B)
I don’t give a toss about Martinez and what he is doing now, I wasn’t his biggest fan when he was here and so I am hardly going to be watching his progress now am I ! My main concern is something that I thought last season and that was the possibility of the ‘Double Drop’ ! Now the influx of new faces in the squad coupled with the fact that we had only lost 3 of the better Prem players had me buoyed I have to admit but there is a lack of cohesion thus far ! As the rest of the league rapidly approach the quarter way mark we find ourselves floundering in 15th place 8 pts off a final play off spot !
Our 2 games in hand are going to be very tough for different reasons and the very fact that we have 2 games in hand after only playing 8 games is also worrying !If we don’t get at least a point on Sunday then we may well be looking at another relegation battle ! The next game after that is Blackpool away who are already looking like promotion contenders but the worrying thing there is our record after international breaks ! The Blackpool game starts a 2 week period were we will have to play 5 games 3 of which are league games and so one can only hope that we pick up some points ! This league is so tough and if you look at our opening 8 games, on paper you would probably say not a totally bad start really but we are 15th and that is worrying ! I didn’t for one minute think that we would go straight back up but deep down I also didn’t think my ‘Double Drop’ worry would return !
I would like to see the use of 3 central defenders with wing backs again because I think we have the players to utilise that tactic/formation ! Barnett, Shotten and Rogne would be pretty damn tight as a unit whilst possibly McClean and Boyce could provide the width. Espinoza, McArthur, Maloney and McManaman across the middle with a striker up front ( I say a striker because I haven’t seen one yet so far ! ) :huh:2 October 2013 at 2:19 pm #1217492 positives :-
1) We win our 2 games in hand we go within a 2 points off the play-offs,but more importantly
2) Bolton are in the bottom three
now don’t things just look a whole lot better ?
2 October 2013 at 2:28 pm #121751Weren’t really much point in writing that was there?
Will not happen, did you see the Forest/Watford matches? The only thing we really need is a goalscorer.
And that’s even considering Coyle as manager!

I saw the Forest game but not the Watford game. The point I am making is that I once thought it possible that we could do the ‘Double Drop’ and now that we have been relegated and are 15th with no firepower upfront, that thought has started to occur to me again ! As for not much point in writing my post, I have just as much right as you do to write on here ! Is it because I didn’t go to Goole away !

Well I am positive that Everton will not be in the top 8 this season ! If they lose Baines and Fellaini they wont even finish in the top half !
You’ve been showing great interest in his progress all the same!
But you’re right to be concerned about our progress. Coyle has to put together a working unit from the players at his disposal. Three at the back is a possibility. But it’s a very sophisticated formation, and I doubt that Coyle has the ability to implement it effectively.
Wingback is a very demanding position. Boyce could probably do it for a further year in the Championship. Beausejour is almost a perfect wingback, but McClean hasn’t the skills or the discipline required.
I’d like to see all the Lancashire teams at the top of the table competing for promotion. Well done, Blackpool – we play you soon! I don’t get any satisfaction from seeing Bolton at the bottom of the table.

Where is my mention of Martinez ? I take it your copy and paste came from an Everton or Martinez thread but I just said what I thought with no mention of martinez failing or otherwise ? I actually had a bet with the guy who cuts my hair that Everton will not finish in the top 8 but even that is too early to get excited about yet !
2 October 2013 at 4:22 pm #121756But Phil – you know that you really do care!
You’ve been all over the Bottom Four Bob thread;
My mate is an Everton fan and he said some fans booed them off ! He said that there was a lot of possession in their own half with not a lot to show for it ! It was like deja vu when he told me that !

In a way I am saying that RM is not the next big thing in the World of football management and that I fear he may be a little out of his depth at Everton with the expectation of their fans !
To paraphrase the IT Crowd, an Everton fan told me that they tried to walk it in the last game he saw !
I cant wait for Özil to make a complete fool of Barry again, now that was funny !
DickDastrdly wrote: Probably a better chance of us being in the bottom 4 before Bob Tick Tock
You have to realise that Dick Dastardly is the proverbial loser !
Sammy wrote: Impossible! Martinez doesn’t have a plan ‘B’.
You need good players to have a contingency plan and we didn’t meet that criteria and from what I saw yesterday we still don’t ! Yesterday was utter garbage !
You’ve been paying close interest to Roberto’s progress! And now you’ve come round to DickDastrdly’s way of thinking.
Back at the ranch, we face Maribor and Blackburn. I’d save the first team for Sunday.
2 October 2013 at 5:52 pm #121759You weren’t his biggest fan but you are suggesting we revert back to the formation he implemented for us …

2 October 2013 at 7:31 pm #121771What is this thing these days about not having recognised strikers?
Remember Ellington and Roberts up front? with Sir Andy Liddle and Super Lee in midfield to move up front to replace the afore metioned if needed.
Didn’t do us much harm did it?2 October 2013 at 7:37 pm #121773Great opening post filmoss.Again the striker issue pops up.In a league as tight as this they will be the difference between mid table or top 6 . Blackburn look average but Rhodes will give them an edge so will Nugent at Leicester .How many players did Coyle sign? 12 ? We also did well to hold onto some key players yet we find ourselves playing with no forwards!!Don’t think we will be a relegation candidate but we could be cut adrift of promotion hopefuls if we dont find some consistency soon.
2 October 2013 at 8:41 pm #121779Do you really think that Coyle will introduce three at the back with wingbacks?
Do you even think that Coyle has the skill to introduce three at the back with wingbacks? It’s a very sophisticated tactic. Nobody has ever accused Coyle of being very sophisticated.
3 October 2013 at 2:01 am #121799You weren’t his biggest fan but you are suggesting we revert back to the formation he implemented for us … :huh:I thought it worked for us when RM finally allowed the penny to drop ! Prior to the introduction of said formation we were pretty dire ! My main bugbear with RM was his stubborness ! I just hope that Coyle doesn’t develop the same trait but his persistence with McCann tells me otherwise so far !
3 October 2013 at 3:32 am #121805Good management is making the best of your resources.
Wigan are in a relatively good financial position in the Championship. But they could quickly fritter their finances away on bad buys and high wages.
3 October 2013 at 11:54 am #121811stubborness
ask any Bolton fan and they will tell you the same, Coyle plays the same formation, one up, no matter what. If we get in front then it’s backs to the wall from 75 minutes.
freelined.
