would you give Martinez to turn it round. I’d say a fair craic would be about ten games. If we have around 9 points by then, I’d be inclined to let him go with it.
However if we’re still gettin tonked week in week out and we still look as defensively clueless as we have in these first two games, then as much as it pains me to say it, but he’s got to go.
I like Martinez, old Latics player that he is, but we have a good squad of players here and we should be able to compete on a better level than we have in these opening matches.
he should have been shown the door after 10 games last season and that was actually 9 to many for me
Here here, no other manager in any other league in Europe would have survived the embarrasments of last season and would have had the bullet long ago. My opinion is that Whelan has told the world that Martinez would never be sacked and has now backed himself into a corner coz he looks like a total dick-head now if he gets shut. Why cant he just keep his gob shut sometimes.
10 games (including ones passed) or until we hit -30 GD, whichever comes first.
He better not ruin my birthday by getting a battering from Wolves! Last game that we played on October 2nd was against Bolton in our first season and Lee McCulloch scored that beaut to decide the game.

I don’t think Whelan will be particularly worried about making a u-turn. After all, before he appointed Martinez, he was adamant that he would NEVER appoint a foreign manager.

A vote of confidence from the owners always comes right before the axe drops.
It’s not that Whelan is afraid to eat his words, as Griff has pointed out. He must have foresight or something, because in my eyes the future is looking pretty grim :(
