i was mascot back in 1983. we beat burnley 1-0 thanks to a graham barrow goal.

remember the day well. i met john fillingham in the commercial lounge – he bought me a coke. after a quick tour of the ground, i got changed with the ball boys & went for a pee where i bumped into tommy hutchinson. i was then introduced to colin methven in the tunnel. i then led the team out – had my 5 mins of glory before meeting up with my family back in the main stand.

always stands out as one of the best memories for me. still got the programme & photos somewhere.

Was in the Junior Latics up until 1986 and never once got my chance to be a Mascot.

I feel sorry for the 3,500 Junior Stripes members, as the vast majority of those will never get their chance either, even with 11 mascots per game.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

My lad was one against Boro – think it was our second home game in the Prem. He loved it though he wasn’t so keen when Uriah Rennie picked him up in the tunnel (he was only 5) and asked him his name. He walked out with De Zeeuw which really made his day. They never showed him on Match of the Day so we eventually got a copy of the game from some dodgy arabian TV channel.

My daughter has been trying for ages and hasn’t got anywhere near it, but then again we don’t go to the pre match entertainment anymore.

My granddaughter was Mascot v Everton at home last season, was chuffed to bits with it and the club and players.

They really make the day special for them, though I didn’t rtealise there were that many of them (3,500).

I asked one of the Junior Stripes ladys how can my little lad become mascot because there hasnt been a weekly draw or anything (like in my old junior latics days) since he started going. And she didnt have a clue! All I was told was that in the new year it will stop being 11 mascots and go back down to 1. :o He’s no chance!

Every time I go down there, it is a set proceedure where they get the bodies forthe half time challenge and draw out the mascots for the next game available.

With regards to the places going down to one, it is just a rumour at the moment, please don’t spread that round as a done deal.

There are on line competitions as well as other ways to get their name down. As quoted above, there 3,500 members and turning up on match day is the best way to get your kids name in the hat as it were..

My lad has never been to any junior latics events, but has been a mascot four times in seven years!

I don’t know why, just lucky I guess, although three of them have been away games where there aren’t that many kids going so odds should be better. One was Arsenal at Highbury in the Carling Cup semi final and we didn’t even apply. I just got a call from the club and have always assumed it was because he was probably the only child ticket they had sold for a freezing cold week night.

He also got Bolton away, Watford away and Charlton at home.

Sorry to rub it in for those who haven’t been lucky. We always entered the online comps. Stopped doing them when he was ten as his cousin had never been chosen and it was getting embarrassing.

Have to give a special mention to David Dein the former Arsenal board member/chairman and the rest of that club. When we arrived at Highbury he was stood at the top of the famous marble staircase there. He hung up on his mobile call and came over to welcome us to Highbury and spent a few minutes chatting to us. True gent. Got a tour behind the scenes and then into both changing rooms where he got both teams autographs. Couple of
weeks later and a framed picture with inscription containing the score, captains names and mascot details arrived in the post. Nice touch that.

Why would the woman that runs Junior Stripes tell me otherwise?

Another “I know more than you post eh”

Did you go to Goole as well?

I may be a tad older than most mascots, but am certainly of the required height.

How do I get onto the list?

I was mascot against Blackpool in the Freight rover trophy or whatever is was called that year (about 87/88) . Andy Holden was our captain, it was a tuesday night and freezing cold. It was the first time I had sat in the Main Stand!
