Started to watch in mid 60’s. Got lots of stick from Utd, Liverpool, Rugby fans. Never considered changing allegiance. Throughout 70’s saw many applications to Leaague knocked back. Never a doubt. And so it goes on. Moved away. Kept going home to watch games. Dave Whelan took over – wonder years.Still live a distance away, get daughter to watch – Premiership ? Unreal. Dream come true. Not truly embarrassed by defeats ( though Carling Cup drubbing was bad) in first couple of years because they always tried hard and there was some sign of organisation. Steve Bruce years were great because he picked a sensible team with a sensible formation ( but a few dodgy signings )
And now ? I was at Spurs for the 9-1, the home defeat by Wolves, the near defeat by Hull at the end of the year, watched Chelsea and Portsmough defeats on TV, listened to Bolton hammering at the Reebok, saw Chelsea – and Blackpool ! dismantle us again this year and Notts Co outclass us in Jan. I could go on.
But the worst of all was Craven Cottage. It was pathetic to observe and I was ashamed. Martinez clearly thinks he was underappreciated in his playing days, that Bruce let him go because he couldn’t see the wonder in his boots and that HIS way will prevail. Roberto it won’t. You are making fools of us all. Evolve the system to something that works- or wreck the club. If I’m on the point of giving up times are very, very bad.
1 November 2010 at 10:09 pm #49942B*llocks. If you have been going since the 60’s you would not be writing that. We are in pretty much the same position now that we have been in November for the past 4-5 years. Which again, is pretty much the highest we have ever been apart from maybe 1 or 2 weeks during our entire existence. Get a grip ffs. Nobody is forcing you to watch and if your reply is going to be that your only saying it because you love the club then realise your negativity is beneficial in no way what so ever.
idiot.
1 November 2010 at 10:29 pm #49943If you’ve been going since the 60s you must be as old as me.
If so, for you to say “But the worst of all was Craven Cottage” means you must be showing early signs of losing your memory. “Worst of all”!!! What have you been watching over all that time.
As 1932 says – get a grip.
1 November 2010 at 10:30 pm #49944Agreed,total bollox,
You obviously never went to Frickley Athletic (away) in 1977!

1 November 2010 at 11:22 pm #49952Forget whether he’s been watching for a million years or not, anyone who feels humiliated because a football team loses a game needs to give himself a serious shake.
An awful lot of people need to calm down a bit

They really do, but Wigan is just full of miserable people.
1 November 2010 at 11:51 pm #49956Plenty of people, plenty of football fans as well, aren’t happy unless they’ve got something to moan about.
1 November 2010 at 11:54 pm #49957The only thing embarrassing is the fans who say they are embarrassed by the team.
Enfield at home was my first game and I have wintnessed many miserable performances since then – although I was drunk for most of the 80s.
