Sean Maloney affect yielding immediate results and a sharper more solid Latics has emerged.
16 cup finals left and his unassuming style of management in similar vein I think to Roberto does seem to be paying off .
Well done11 February 2023 at 7:11 pm #198352Thought young Charlie was magnificent, since this must have been the biggest game of his career to date. He showed no nerves and hardly put a foot wrong; maybe one sloppy pass and that was it !
We looked more effective when Pearce came on and started to link up with Jimmy.
Let’s keep the momentum going on Wednesday.11 February 2023 at 7:23 pm #198353Just how good is hughes
11 February 2023 at 9:08 pm #198356Hughes was excellent and a real nugget we have gained for nothing.
Surely another one lurking in that reserve team somewhere and these young players a few an absolute credit and brilliant they are coming through.11 February 2023 at 10:43 pm #198358Spot on Vince
11 February 2023 at 10:52 pm #198359Not sure why all the TV cameras were there today; just wait till we have one of those drone camera things suspended above the pitch!
To a neutral, that was the epitome of a bottom 3 clash with neither side creating many real chances.
Who cares though, a win is a win
12 February 2023 at 8:20 am #198362A good 3pts and I’ll take them whichever way we can get them. For me we were poor especially in the first half but we improved after we made the subs, we’d not a shot at goal in the first 45. I thought we were far better against a better Blackburn side and it’s a good job Huddersfield were as poor as us.
I didn’t quite get the Fletcher over Wyke sub that’s unless Fletcher’s got an appearance clause in his loan contract.
3pts is 3pts no matter how you get them but we will need to massively improve especially up front against Bristol City and Norwich, 2 sides who still have play off hopes.
There’s a huge problem for me and that’s in the midfield. We simply cannot create fcuk all, nothing. Power works hard but so easy to read. It’s either sideways or a 50yard punt to the corner.
The waving of the hands and the pointing of “The finger of blame” is fcukin annoying especially when it’s him at fault.Saying that 4pts for a possible 6 I’ll take all day long but we need to massively improve going forward and in the final third because without some creativity I cannot see were the goals are going to come from.
As for Hughes?, he will for me go all the way another superb performance and we must thank Kolo Toure for giving him his chance unlike Liam “he’s not ready” Richardson
12 February 2023 at 8:50 am #198364I keep saying it and saying it , the development squad is producing proper raw talent and our best players this season have come from that source in my opinion.
The thinking in football now is that “you’re in the under 23 squad “ and then they get left there?
CW raises a good point there about Hughes and that Kolo had a look but if I was Maloney I’d be looking constantly because I firmly believe that’s our best source of footballer.
A good striker is needed very badly and we might already have him.12 February 2023 at 8:56 am #198366I agree Hughes is a great find but I’m not giving Toure any credit for it. It was injuries to Kerr, Whatmough and Edmonds Green that forced his hand to play him. He hadn’t even made the bench in Kolo’s first 2 games.
I do however agree that we are way too reluctant to give some of our kids a chance. Smith, Adeeko and Sze have all shown enough in Pizza Cup games to warrant some inclusion
12 February 2023 at 11:07 am #198367SZe plays in midfield an area long overdue a shake up and has had some very good reviews.
He should be making the bench at least now .13 February 2023 at 7:42 am #198374I agree Hughes is a great find but I’m not giving Toure any credit for it. It was injuries to Kerr, Whatmough and Edmonds Green that forced his hand to play him. He hadn’t even made the bench in Kolo’s first 2 games.
I think you’ll find Richardson had plenty opportunities to give Hughes a chance even if it was a seat on the bench but he chose not to “Not ready” been the normal reason why, Kolo did so whether you like it or not Kolo was the one who pushed him into the limelight
It’s time we started benching more and giving lads a chance.
Were quite happy to give the likes of Azeez and Rekik a go now it’s time for our own.
Anyway, we need to get something out our next two games starting with Bristol City this Wednesday13 February 2023 at 3:56 pm #198377Agreed, it was a great result, but not a great game.
Battled hard and that I think is what would have let us down if we’d played 3 weeks ago. Hughes is a very good player, hard to fault him. I like others are still wondering if Power and Keane really are our best options, neither has showed very much for months now, but unlike others that have been replaced, they still remain.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
14 February 2023 at 1:43 pm #198390I’m not a fan of Fletcher so the sub choice last Saturday made me think, why ???.
We need goals especially as we’ve kept 2 clean sheets but we’re from I’ve not a fuckin clue -
