11 January 2012 at 1:57 am #77836£30m in todays market is chicken feed. :cheer:It’s still 5 times more than any Latics manager has ever had or ever will have. And that is why we have Martinez, Jones and Barrow because no proper managers and coaches would work in the PL with such sparse resources.
Where is that effing warchest by the way?11 January 2012 at 2:06 am #77839Anonymous
Do the sums with the money martinez as wasted on transfers since he took over, then you will realise why there will be no WAR chest :)
11 January 2012 at 2:15 am #77840You don’t say, and there was I thinking there must be 60 or 70 million in it by now. Silly me.
We could have put a bid in for Balotelli or that nice guy Suarez.11 January 2012 at 4:09 am #77850Do the sums with the money martinez as wasted on transfers since he took over, then you will realise why there will be no WAR chest :)Go on then. Tell us what you reckon the net spend is?
I got the spend at around £29m and the money received from sales at £34m (£33m of that is from the sales of Valencia, Cattermole and N’Zogbia)
So, that’s a net spend of -£5m and I would bet all of that £5m on you coming up with a different figure – which emphasised just the money spent.

It would be interesting to know wht the total income/outcome is for our time in the prem
Also the same since Uncle Dave took over to put the Warchest theory and “He’s taking money out of the club ” war cry to rest
11 January 2012 at 4:22 am #77852No chance of that happening. I (along with several others) have tried countless times over the past few years to prove that Whelan does not profit from the club, and some people either don’t read it, don’t understand it, don’t believe it, or all three.

I Should of been clearer in what I meant the theory of others that he pockets all transfers and doesn’t reinvest that transfer money into the club in purchasing players of equal quality

11 January 2012 at 11:43 am #77859The warchest never really existed. Before our first Premier League season started, Whelan said that we would get £20m from Sky and that he would matcn that. Jewell, for whatever reason, refused to spend it. That’s about as much “warchest” talk as we have ever had from Whelan. 7 years on, the financial world is a far, far different place. I, for one, don’t begrudge Whelan putting his hand in his pocket any longer.
Anyone on here who fancies taking over and investing their millions in the club, step right up.
