1 January 2012 at 11:49 pm #76694Billy Sharp in?Hope not
1 January 2012 at 11:57 pm #76696The club should have a took a stab on the lower divisions ages ago.
Jordan Rhodes at Huddersfield,Ricky Lambert at Southampton have both been banging the goals in but nobody at this level seems that interested in either of them.
Give me a young hungry skilful lad from the lower divisions anyday than some prima donna from overseas.2 January 2012 at 12:13 am #76699For punts on highly rated lower league players, I refer you to Jason Koumas, Jason Scotland, Marlon King, Caleb Folan, David Cotterill, and David Graham.
If they’re banging ‘em in against Stevenage, Brentford, Carlisle etc, it doesn’t mean they’ll do the same against Premier League clubs, and they tend to cost more than their foreign counterparts.
2 January 2012 at 12:16 am #76700Billy Sharp is just the sort of player we need. To opt to play a match some 3 days after the death of his baby son was something that put many things into perspective. For him to have had the strength, courage and loyalty to do that warranted the kudos he so richly deserved ! We aint got money to flash on big time Charlies so I say give him a chance !

Connor Sammon was spot on in the SPL, and I remember Aghahowa was touted as someone who knew where the goal was.
2 January 2012 at 12:25 am #76702Boselli had banged in 30 odd goals in one season prior to joining us ! Its hit and miss and like I said we don’t have big money !

But should Bob sign him you will give Bob your full backing for the decision ? Just how do you become a striker in the Prem ? Do you have to be promoted with your team ? Come through the youth ranks of a Prem club ? Maybe move here from a club abroad that is the equivalent of say Charlton Athletic ? Where did all the strikers ever come from !!
2 January 2012 at 3:41 am #76708A majority of English Premier League are picked up when they’re in their teens – not when they’re in their mid twenties like Billy Sharp is.
If he’s cheap enough, or course he’s worth a punt. There’s no guarantee that he’ll be any good though.

I don’t know whether he’d be any good or not. What I do know, and this is what you suggested, is that the fact that he bravely played a game shortly after his son’s death won’t have any bearing whatsoever on how he would fare in the Premier League.

What I meant was he is mentally strong and also obviously fairly loyal to the cause ! Take Zaki for instance or was it Camara ? Or both ! Did they not go AWOL due to the death of a Grand Parent ? The slightest thing seems to upset many of these joy boy immigrants whereas Billy Smart in my opinion showed some courage and loyalty !
