Wouldn’t surprise me if he went. He’s in the last year of his contract so we either sell now or lose him for nothing in the summer.
Pity if he goes though. I think we’ll miss him.

We would; one of the few capable of playing balls with real quality (incl. Gomez).
We bought him for < 1M GBP if I remember well; we wouldn't get big bucks for him (last year contract). assuming UR rates him (and we play to JB's strengths), I'd say keep him. Promotion end of season .. we're going nowhere, selling our better players mid-term. Another day out at Wembley (FA Cup win) and we'll recoup what we've lost on the transfer fees foregone B) B)

However, I’d be surprised if we got more than £1 - £2m for him though. It’s not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things, but enough for the club to have to make a careful decision. Personally, I’m with you. His loss would be significant and there’s no other left sided player who can spot a run or a pass as well as he does.
3 January 2014 at 2:25 pm #125610boozerjoe probablly as already made his own decision what he wants to do
rumours say he has refused and is not willing to sign a new contract
how much of this is true i am not sure
but if they want to leave then thanks and goodbye i say3 January 2014 at 2:38 pm #125613You couldn’t blame him for wanting to move to to a Premier League club if he gets the opportunity. And from the club’s viewpoint, if he is indicating that he wont extend then they have a duty to sell and get some money if they can.
I wouldn’t blame Gomez for wanting a move either, given the stick he’s taken, but if I were him, I’d wait until summer and go for nothing. Again, though, if the club thinks he has no intention of extending then they should try to sell and raise some funds to try to replace them.
If the club is serious about promotion though, they should do their best to hold on to those who wold contribute to that propmositon push and and beyond, and Jean and Gomez certainly fall into that category, in my opinion.
None of which is rocket science. Or some “ITK” bollocks.

maybe nit-picking, but I’d rather say Board have a duty to consider ‘wisdom of keeping’ i.e. odds re. successful promotion incl. players likely contribution (whether player re-signs or not) than ‘duty to sell’.
Speculate to accumulate. (EPL = payback on investment (GPBs!, even if player does ultimately does go on a Jonny B.)
Both JB and JG, without doubt, in ‘quality’ category. Agreed.

3 January 2014 at 3:06 pm #125618What’s this raising funds to replace them all about ? Did we not get a shit load of money for McCarthy and Kone ?
3 January 2014 at 3:11 pm #125620mcarthy and kone money is tucked away in the old war chest

No, you’re right. I guess it comes down to whether they think that the push for promotion is worth not getting a fee for the players who will not be staying.
Another consideration is whether you think that player will put the effort in over the remaining 6 months. Though some may say it would be quite hard for Gomez to put in less effort than he does now!!

Sounds like something out of Flash Gordon! Can’t even re-create that, and I can’t blame it on the iPhone either – or booze. ;)
