I read this statement from Roberto Martinez, and was staggered at what he says.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, … 19,00.html
We are about to lose our centre half, and captain. We have already lost last seasons right-back and club captain. It is highly likely that Figueroa, our left-back will also be sold.
Currently, Caldwell is out until October, whilst Amaya looks way off the mark of making a starting place his own. Who says that Alcaraz will DEFINITELY be coming? And what guarantee he hits the ground running, in the Premiership. Ok, we have Gohouri and Boyce, but the latter will probably play at right back. We may become chronically short in defence.Yet in the interview, whilst Martinez states that we are “3 bodies short” in the squad, he suggests that we will see how the youngsters do, before we go out and buy anybody. It reeks of penny pinching, and him being told how to do his job. Again. It’s becoming blatantly obvious that they will look to recoup the 6 million spent on Boselli. It stinks. I don’t know about you, but it’s pi**ing me off.
The problem is, ok, we give the young lads a go. What happens if we get smashed 2 or 3 times, revealling their ineptness, before Martinez then thinks “Oh, ok, we need to sign somebody” late on in the transfer window. By which time, anybody half-decent will have been snapped up already?
If it was up to me, and Bramble went today or tomorrow, I’d want somebody in by next Friday (30th July) at the latest. And a good, solid, experienced pro, at that.
That’s another problem. For all their faults, Melchiot, Bramble, and Figueroa, if he goes, are all experienced Premiership players. We are replacing them with players who don’t have that. It’s a concern. Other clubs would gradually introduce them, where as we will have to put them straight in at the deep end.Unless things change, I would expect a few hammerings again, like we had last season. Slip up against Blackpool, and I don’t know where our first points will come from.

It’s ok everybody, let’s all play the ‘not bothered or worried’ card.
Don’t moan when we are getting hammered. I’ll be the one doing a chicken dance along the front of the East Stand, flashing the fingers at you all. (Anybody who actually know’s me, know that I WILL do that)
Deluded if you think all is fine and dandy.

21 July 2010 at 4:39 pm #40669Seven weeks untill the end of the window vat calm down and take your tabletsI’ll remind you of that when you are bemoaning us getting a tonking, in a few weeks time. :)
3 weeks to start of season, and Martinez has said he’ll see how the youngsters do, before he thinks about buying any more players, and if we do, it’ll be late in the window.
I.E. freebies or crap that other teams won’t touch.

Your vision of the future vat is alarming
21 July 2010 at 4:49 pm #40674Look at it another way vat, we are getting rid of defence that conceded over 80 goals last season.
we have gohouri, boyce, alcaraz and figueroa at the moment also i think we will sign another defender at least before the first match

Stop that reasoned thinking, right now!!!
21 July 2010 at 4:58 pm #40680ano griff we try and strengthen the weak area of last season and people moan we get rid of one of the culprits (bramble).
also forgot we have caldwell aswell
21 July 2010 at 5:00 pm #40684Taking into accout the size of our club and our transfer budget, im entirely sure Martinez is doing everything he possibly can he sort the situation.
There is still about over 3 weeks until we play Blackpool. If we have lost both Titus & Figueroa by then without replacements we should be worried, but it hasnt come to that just yet.
21 July 2010 at 5:02 pm #40685Thats what worries me our chairman has 7 weeks to sell our best players. Sunderland paid over 10 mill for Turner from Hull and we give them Titus for 1 mill WTF is going on. Someone explain to me how this is allowed to happen you can’t get a shoite Championship striker for less then 2.5 mill, and we know.
21 July 2010 at 5:06 pm #40687Who says its 1 million, ssn?

Andf why are you talking about the price of a championship striker when the subject is premier league defenders? Or is it that you can’t post anything without having a snide, band-waggoning dig at Jason Scotland?
