Knob head :P
12 December 2015 at 12:52 am #146175It’s actually 19. They did us in Lancashire cup in 90s and when JJB stadium was opened.
If you’re going to count that then it’s 20.
We played a United team (including Beckham, Scholes, Neville) at Springy in the Lancashire Cup.

We then also played them in a friendly for the JJB opening in 2000.
Two separate occasions.[/quote]
Never forget walking into the local after that UTD match. One of the old blokes asked me who played, anybody we know.. I said no, load of flippin kids out :blush:
12 December 2015 at 2:19 am #146176Sunderland…big ground, big support but when it comes to getting to finals and winning stuff, they’re just a **** Middlesbrough
12 December 2015 at 2:14 pm #146177Sunderland…big ground, big support but when it comes to getting to finals and winning stuff, they’re just a **** MiddlesbroughIf you are talking about post-1973, and ignoring the last century of professional football then you have a point. Sunderland have appeared in three major cup finals and two play-off finals, and lost them all. Not a great record, but five Wembley finals in 30 years is more than some clubs have enjoyed..
However, 2013 is also history. Bear in mind as well that Sunderland weren’t playing in the 1st round in the 1975-76 season, a mere two years after lifting the trophy.
12 December 2015 at 3:03 pm #146178Fek me your talking about 42 years ago! :lol:
Clubs like Bolton, Preston, and Blackpool won things half a century ago, it wont be that long off before there will be nobody alive that remembers those triumphs or anyone that really cares.
Even Goliath won a few battles before David decked him, yet everyone only talks of his demise. How long do you fekin want to go back? :huh:
Sunderland = Commodore 64
Wigan Athletic = Play Station 2
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!12 December 2015 at 4:23 pm #146183Sunderland…big ground, big support but when it comes to getting to finals and winning stuff, they’re just a **** Middlesbrough

I feel so honoured that you feel the need to defend your massive club against the likes of Wigan Athletic.
13 December 2015 at 6:47 pm #146207You can add another to the list, we played Man Utd in a “TRAINING MATCH” at Robin Park 8th February 1984 I think it was on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon and there were only about 40 people there I have the single sheet programme in front of me. I think we won 2-1?

In this day and age we expect to know the proper score, the scorers, the kick off time, the line ups, the exact attendance, the corner count, substitutions and the times, bookings, sendings off, shots on and off target, percentage of possesion, how many passes it took sideways and backwards to eventually get in the oppositions half, all the officials names and colour of the flags they used, team colours, colour of the Refs top, registration of the Utd team coach, what after match meal they all had and most important, what positives did the Manager at time draw from the match.Lets have a bit more accuracy and detail in the future please.
