I love my club a lot more than this plastic league. Wouldnt ever like to see us relegated. Some of us on here and at New Springfield have seen that and it wasnt good. But hey out of this hyped up fanfare blowing charade there are more games a season, cup runs, decent derby games. There is even potentially the chance to stand up again at away games. Oh yes and away games you half expect to win and can even afford. Just think without all that crap we have prior to kick off the crowd may even get the chance to get going. Pop side or South stand could be superb at times. Thats good to do that winning thing and knowing that the club wouldnt just be happy to win 9 or so games and draw a few to be safe. Just think first team out int cup, English players that work past half time could be interesting and not losing games to stupid internationals and three o clock kick offs. If anyone remembers the football didnt seem worse than it is now and it was a darn sight more interesting.

Add to your post DBT the following…..

Refs who actually allow tackling and don’t blow up if someone like Stevie Gee or Ronaldo tell them they should.

Hell yeah. Whilst being in the prem and upsetting the media and the like is great fun, I much preferred the lower leagues.

          Real football with real fans.

Supporting your team is not just about the football and how good or bad it may be. Plus, I’ve seen us participate in more dire games in the Prem than I ever did in the Championship.

I suspect you have to make a personal choice what you want out of football, small success on a higher level or greater success in the lower reaches of the leagues. For me every game is like a cup final in the premiership, albeit some more like the Sherpa Van than the Fa Cup.

Football has been over hyped over the past 10 years and when you get to the promised land it isn’t always what you imagined, but don’t kid yourself about the enjoyment of beating teams if we go down, what’s the point if you only get promoted again. The whole point of football is to raise up the pyramid and enjoy the buzz when it happens.

Standing up at away games or even home games is the most over hyped uncomfortable experience you could have for watching a sporting event. I’ll take the seats thanks. Do you go to the cinema and stand up? Why would you want to spend the same amount of time at the football standing? A small minority of fans who have decided the modern game as we know it isn’t what their childhood memories suggested it was like, so you want to recapture the good old days. Move on and try to experience football in a safe environment for families and kids.

As for the rubbish we have before kick off, what you mean the music, rose tinted glasses that we would make any noise, cracking atmosphere eh !

As for players working past half time, I watched the drivel in the late 80’s and early 90’s when it went pair shaped, players were poor all the time. At least you have the chance of seeing some of the worlds great players grace the pitch in front of you. Maybe you were a united fan or Liverpool fan in the past 20 years cause not for a minute was the football any better.

Wigan Athletic has a history , it doesnt include cup runs or promotions it doesnt include winning a place in the PL or all those honours we got as the best non league team ever to grace these shores.

No our real history is people , from the word go we have people who have their hearts and souls into making Wigan Athletic into what we have today , from the owners and chairmen to the die hards , cleaners and tea ladies and for people to sit there and declare that the highest profile and highest league position that the club has ever enjoyed should be given up for a place in a lower league is an insult of the higest order to every person who has dedicated their lives into making Wigan Athletic live on.

You should be truely ashamed of yourselves.

I love watching my little town team going toe to toe with the big names in the Premiership. I’ll never forget the privilige of seeing league goals scored at my team’s ground by the likes of Henry, Rooney and Crespo. Fantastic times, fanbtastic memories.

When/If we find ourselves back in the lower leagues, I will still be there supporting my local team. Long may the premier league story continue, but I wouldn’t want my club jeapordising its long term viability by spending silly money to stay in it.

So, in answer to your question, the club comes first.

Whilst we all cheered on the ride to the Premiership, the fare in the last few years has been pretty dire, on the whole, with some highlights. No, I wouldn’t want relegation, but it’s not the worst fate in the world, if it leads to more competitive football and less of the falseness that is the Premiership. In case a couple of the posters haven’t read the initial post, it wasn’t asking if they wanted the club to be relegated, it was asking whether the club is more important to them than the league they were in. Most of us will answer club first every time. Those who don’t, we won’t miss if/when we go down.

Club before Premier greed sorry League every time!
Best memories are of the supporters club at Springy sat having a moan after the game a real family atmosphere.I also took my son aged 4 to his first game which was a relegation battle against Darlington 1994 i think. 2-0 win ensured survival and it felt as good as any games i have seen in the PL so far.
I will support the club regardless of the division and whilst very proud of Latics and the acheivements the PL is a dull league where 14 clubs fight relegation each year and sacrifice absolutely everything for just that.
Roy Hodgson was even talking about pulling away from the relegation pack a couple of weeks ago and he was in the top ten at the time!
Surely that is not what football is all about?

You bleat on about how fighting relegation every season is not good , then say a relegation game against Darlington , in some god forsaken lower league , felt good ….get a bloody grip man.

I don’t think games in the Championship are as cheap as some think. Aren’t there still places charging upwards of £25 quid to get in?

In any case, although the quality hasn’t been the best in recent times, I don’t think I’d prefer to be back below the Prem on a long term basis, we hit the big time at exactly the right time for us. Those who have any doubts at the level of football you wish to watch, I’ve not been to a game since the West Ham win due to my broken leg so I’ve been stuck indoors watching all kinds of football from the SPL to League 2 and it’s dreadful. Give me the Prem any day.

The Darlo game felt good because 1500 of us screamed and shouted and encouraged those players to win that game to stay in THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE!That is a f@@@ing relegation battle without a doubt when you league status and very existence is under threat!
Only a three or four clubs were involved in the scrap that year not 14-where is the satisfaction in competing when clubs ‘compete’ in cup competions fielding their reserves and youths.
That is not competion it is just treading water and quite a few people are starting to vote with their feet because of it.

It depends on whether you’re a person who relies on the club as a business or as an enjoyable past time.
If you need the club to be successful so you’ll be successful (as a chairman or a tea lady) then of course you want want it to be at the pinnacle of the industry.
If you care more about the entertainment and experience of (live) football, then being in the Prem is certainly not the best example for numerous different reasons.
