As the show is called Rugby Special how much of the show will cover rugby league issues?
Not very much, because it’s a rugby union show. Rugby league has sold its soul to Sky, and it has to live with that. For rugby league fans we’ve got a very good online presence, we are carrying the Challenge Cup and we have highlights of the England internationals in the autumn.
But the sport has done its deal with Mr Murdoch, and that’s something rugby league fans have to deal with. If you live in the north of England there is the Super League Show, which is a regional transmission, and if you really want to see rugby league outside of the north, you should write to your local BBC and see if they’ll carry it as a local transmission.
that’s the one……”regional transmission” eh!!!!! and they talk about “viewing figures” over on chubby-ville.com
What were you all doing in March 2002 when that article was written seeing as football hadnt even been invented in Wigan?
Personally, at the start of the month I was part of a healthy away following in a crowd of 12800 at Huddersfield and there were two home gates in excess of 7000 plus against Oldham and Tranmere. Only 3500 turned up to watch us thrash Cambridge 4-1 but it was a fairly mundane league game in the third tier of English football.
I wonder if your sport ever allowed you to be relegated two divisions what sort of crowds would show up to see you play the likes of London Skolars and Dewsbury? Similar, if not less, I would imagine.

If so, I know at least one Wiganer who’d be supporting London Skolars!

i don’t think lotp realises that the reason my replies bare no correlation to his questions is because i skip past them……i’d hazard a guess that it’s the usual tesco tubby old fashioned drivel, sprinkled with a touch of envy and a hint of bitterness…….same old, same old zzzzz
not worth reading……better ask wiggo to sponsor souper league, surely you can’t start your season without a main sponsor, especially after the regionalised bbc programme on rugger league’s “financial abyss”. The fact it wasn’t shown in the south or north of lancs, means hardly any big companies will know you don’t have a sponsor!
wiggo’s wiggin wheelers souper league – has a certain steroid infested ring to it don’t ya think….then again so does the aviva premiership ;)
What were you all doing in March 2002 when that article was written seeing as football hadnt even been invented in Wigan?
Well I was supporting the same football club that I support now. I was supporting the same team that I’d supported 5 years previously. And 10 years previously. And 15, 20, 25 and 30 years previously. Was you?
*more football teams in a rugby town than rugby ones.
*more football pitches in a rugby town than rugby ones (inc union ones).
*more registered football players in a rugby town than rugby ones.
*more revenue comes into a rugby town from football, than rugby.
*more people pass through the turnstiles for football in a rugby town.
*The towns stadium has the name of our owner above the door in a rugby town (not called the IL stadium is it chubbies).
*Football takes priority over rugby in a rugby town.(search for widnes via sat nav).
*people now use the name “wigan” & not “wigin” when refering to football as opposed to warriors for the rugby in a rugby town.
*The rugby team in a rugby town are classed as lodgers in a rugby town.
As you can see the evidence swings in favour of rugby league in a rugby league town
(article from council on another WAFC site (it’ll be archived) which i can’t advertise on here, shows evidence of this)…
never mind lotp, you can always get maureen’s chippy give you extra chips on good friday…tha’knows….too many twinkies

Re: Poor state of RL Clubs finances tonight BBC 1 Inside out
I like the way Hethrington blames financial mis-management. It may or may not be true but it’s easy to say when you’ve got the support and facilities Leeds have, not so easy if you’re pumping millions of your own money into clubs like Broncos, Widnes, The smellys, etc.
I didn’t like the whole negative aspect to this programme.
RL has been around for a long time and will be around a long time yet. In the north, where fans have a choice, it’s much the preferred spectator sport over everything bar football.
Far as I’m concerned, RL is the best sport in the world and the world is poorer for not promoting it more.
oh dear, another deluded, stuck in a bygone era tesco tubber! everything bar football? Test cricket maybe! horse racing perhaps?…i don’t think this numpty has done her homework
