I’ve just read were so called after Adama Sidibeh a 26 year old striker from St Johnstone £500,000, I think he’s played 6 times 4 in the League Cup 2 in the Scottish Prem 4 goals.
That’s great but it makes an absolute fookin mockery of us and why?
Well St Johnstone paid peanuts for him Feb of this year from Warrington and 6 months later we’re looking the same guy (was at Blackpool too) for £500,000
That’s what happens when you don’t have a good scouting system
You don’t know how Power would look at it, he might have made his cash and be happy to be playing again. I’m sure there won’t be many takers £7k a week £350k a year and he’s 31 as well.
He only played 10 times for Al-Qadsiah so who knows but I know one thing, I’d approach him and test the water because that midfield of ours is rice paper thin and light. It desperately needs an older head in there regardless
So J.Jones has left the club, he wanted to stay, Maloney desperately wanted him to stay along with the majority of the fans but Maloney’s so called spent his budget on widemen.
The Jones case as a whole, is bizarre.
So we got him back after letting him go, but only for a month. I’m surprised Maloney did that. It was a very strange move, and as he’s lasted about 2 weeks before he’s left again, it’s embarrassing for the club, and also Maloney. It was an absolute waste of time and makes us look what we are, absolutely shambolic.
Also the fact that Humphreys is sat twiddling his thumbs rather than accept a lower paid deal to play for us. I’m not saying we’ve approached him to consider a return, but you’d think his agent would have mooted the idea. But what does that sat? Does it suggest he and Maloney weren’t the best of mates? I really don’t know how to take our manager.
Apart from him having some history with us, what do the players think of him? Does he have a good relationship with the players? Is he too ‘pally’, or on the other hand is he too aloof? I really can’t decide.
The next week, coming upto the close of the transfer window could be make or break. Then again, will Danson wait until it’s closed before then getting shut of Maloney, which will then leave it impossible for a new manager to sign anyone anyway. Or is Maloney somewhere near last chance saloon and if they don’t shape up tomorrow, he’ll be gone? My worry is that if they did that now, they’d rush and bring in Neil Critchley who’s been linked with us before. He plays the same turgid, tippy tappy style as Moloney, so would be a waste of time.
I really don’t know where we go from here, but I am concerned.
Jones for me will be wanting far too much. He’s 29 so he’ll want his next deal to be a v.g. deal say 2-3 years to make a nest egg “then” after that he’d be affordable. Great player but not prepared to lower to a sensible L1 wage we can afford and were not prepared to up wages.
Maloney has said he’s already spent his budget on wingers so it’s a no go’er.
Rumours say Ramsey is on £6.5k at Liverpool so if we pay say 50% of that which is the norm he’ll stand us at over £150k for the loan period. Is he worth it ? jury’s out on that one.
With Ramsey though that’s like renting rather than buying, it’s dead money. Wouldn’t that £3k a week be better spent signing someone then we can start to build a squad ?.
We currently now have a 27 man squad, 16 of them are out of contract summer 2025 which for me again is utter utter madness. That’s not building that’s surviving hand to mouth.
Can you imagine if they all left in 2025 ? Couple that with last summers outgoings we’d had a turn over of over 30 players in the space of 12 months not even fookin Chelsea can match that.
I’m in no doubt were looking for an old No9 and a keeper. Stones will go out on loan and Tickles already got his clothes folded in prep on the bed like he’s waiting for a last minute holiday deal.
It’s sad, sad we can’t even compete against some L2 or Non League clubs financially. Again I understand you like a refurbishment you have to knock down first, tidy up then start building but I thought this summer would be when we’d say sign 8-10. When I say sign I mean actually sign not an army of very young loanees then we can gel a squad together this season then push on 2025-2026 but right now that’s a pipe dream.
I’m not Maloney’s greatest fan but he has to be given a chance in the transfer market this summer to show he can and start building but he’s not.
This season I fear more than any other start to a season. The way we conceded against Reading was schoolboy stuff and we attack the same toothless.
If Maloney can pull off a mid table with this squad I’ll be his biggest fan. He’s hands are tied,he’s got a blindfold on, ears plugs in plus a gag so he can’t express his thoughts to the media.
I’ll say it again, it’s the weakest squad I’ve seen since the kids in admin,
but at least they were ours
This reply was modified 2 weeks, 1 day ago by cup winners.
Mentioning the admin squad we had, Dan Gardner could easily have fitted into this squad in midfield. Proper 100 percenter, a solid player a bit like a Luke O’Nien type.
Yeah, Maloney is basically trying to emulate Jimi Hendrix on a £50 acoustic. I’d at least like to see what he could do with some…sensible…backing. I like Aimson, from what I saw. A similar CM and a CF would give us a spine through the team. However, I do think Tickle will go on or before the deadline. Can just see it.
And what’s worse we can’t afford Jordan Jones’s wages but Exeter can.
When your outdone by Exeter it’s time to wave the white flag on signings and just look through the Wigan army leagues and draft a few lads in from there.
I’m sure there’s a few there who’d play for £200 a week.
Drafting lads in from Ammy leagues was a fairly common practice at Latics in late 80s and early 90s.
Joe Palladino, Barry Knowles ( I think )are two of the most notable but there were many others I’m sure.
I keep saying it but the current times feel like a rerun of those days.
Carry on like this and it won’t be just league 2 we will be heading for.
Okay, I’ll be heading into today’s game with a positive & hopeful mindset that this will be the turning point. I expect us to show a positive & progressive game from the off and to maintain it for 96 minutes. Ten minutes of desperate positivity at the end won’t cut the mustard. Mind you, if the game takes that format; then the crowd are going to be restless if they are still in their seats.
