Cannot believe that Bob is actually speaking to Aston Villa. He is one of us, the club is in his heart, he loves Wigan, all comments I have read on here.
Absolute b*ll*cks ask Swansea how loyal he was, he has used us as a stepping stone. Not a crime because every player at the club is doing the same but they didn’t come declaring there love for the club.

Id actually argue that he does love Wigan and that our club is in his heart. A stepping stone maybe.
I dont think fans are saying he shouldnt take the job. They maybe are just saying they dont want him to.
I think the move from swansea to wigan; and a potential move from Wigan to Villa cant really be compared.

What harm does it do to speak to them? I’ll be as disappointed as the next man if he chooses to go but he hasn’t actually gone yet, has he?
And if he stays, and talking to Villa helps get a bigger salary from DW, then what harm to talk to them?
9 June 2011 at 5:20 pm #67430Totally agree with Area51… there can be no comparison between a potential move between us and Villa and from Swansea to us.
I think loyalty will prevail and Bob will sign a new deal at Wigan. No harm for him speaking with Aston Villa and this could potentially allow us to have a better transfer window with Whelan having to show his loyalty again towards Martinez by backing him in the transfer market.
What has really got to me is the reality that Whelan is not likely to put up a fight and with his ‘blessing.’ If we would have gone down Whelan would have been loyal, now the table has turned and we stayed up Martinez has to show loyalty to Wigan.
9 June 2011 at 5:24 pm #67433I didn’t want him to go until i learned he was in Birmingham, the tail end of the season was superb and the squad really came together but now i just want him to go. He has spouted for two seasons of his love for the club and everyone connected with it and that he has to stay here and finish the project.
Just go Martinez, You are nowhere near as good as you think you are yet.

Christ, couldn’t you have saved that last bit until he had actually gone?10 June 2011 at 4:23 pm #67565Cannot believe that Bob is actually speaking to Aston Villa. Would you like a tissue to wipe a bit of that egg off your face?

Ah, but it appears he never was in Birmingham

Still making themselves look foolish even in the close season.
Moral of this story is, dont believe everything you read.

And yet again the theory is proven that at the mere hint of all not going to plan, certain members of the Darkside church will react with hissy fits and message board tantrums before even establishing the facts first.
And it proves to me that those with this train of thought are not more numerous – and never have been.
10 June 2011 at 8:19 pm #67602I think the media played a good un to be fair. A lot happened yesterday and a lot was said. Most of what i said was out of anger and disappointment(spare of the moment stuff) and i was wrong i admit. I’m curious and anxious to see what his next moves are. I want to see his grand plan in action and his ideas of how we are going to take the next steps forward. Looks like those of you predicting he may have used the media to angle a better deal here and get what he wanted out of Whelan were correct. It looks increasingly like Dave is going to back him to the hilt, I just hope he does it with funds too and forgives him for Boselli. I said to my mate before i think we should be aiming for around a 14th place finish, But not a finish where we finish there and just avoid relegation because of a couple of end of season good results. I think now at the least we should be aiming at trying to finish around there but safe(ish) with around 5 games to go. Presumably the aim is a mid-table finish but in reality i think 14th is reasonable and would still be making progress and heading in the right direction.

First you jump the gun and slag him off for going to Brmingham. Then you blame the media for playing a good ‘un. You go on to say he’s played it to get more out of Whelan before finishing off by setting him a target for next season!
