i think that if/when Bobby goes then Whelan should aim as high as possible with his next appointment
Someone has posted that they would like O’Neill in charge but “he wouldn’t come” – well if you don’t ask him then you don’t find out & personally I can’t see many more top flight English jobs liable to come up in the near future.
Curbishley is another potential candidate & they’ll be plenty of others too (although not necessarily ones I’d agree with) like Eriksson
O’Neill is likely to wait and see what happens at Man City.[/quote]
Personally I don’t think there’s a cat in hells chance of O’Neill being offered the City job if they sack Mancini – a) coz of the circumstances surrounding his departure from Villa & b) the owners will want someone far more high profile than a bloke who has managed Wycombe, Norwich, Leicester, Celtic & Villa
There’s even less chance he’d ever get offered the United job either due to his lack of European success
Anyway that’s going away from the point of my original post – if you don’t ask you don’t get.

Also the reason why Whelan wouldn’t consider him either.
Seeing as how we dont pay decent wages to attract the good players i reckon the same will apply to managers as well. To think the likes of O,Neill and Errikson would come to Wigan to pick up a lot less per week than they normally get is a non starter. Its immaterial anyway as mr Whelan stated when he hired R M that he would never sack him and he would be manager of Wigan Athletic for as long as he wanted

Yes, and Mr Whelan always does what he says he will do, doesn’t he?
I’m not sure DW will have to sack Martinez if things don’t begin to show signs of improvement, think Martinez is the sort of person who will resign if he thinks he’s not up to the job
Bring in anyone who understands that the first thing you do is sort out the defence. It’s so obvious. And yet RM doesn’t get it. Suspect he might be an excellent coach at a top side – but let him practice somewhere else other than Wigan.
