What you reckon about steve mcClaren would mind him at latics. But he would want a decent transfer budget but cant see whelen giving that to any manager we have to sell to buy
To be honest, I think he is an excellent coach.
Learned his trade at United before doing well with Boro.
Far too inexperienced for the England job and was ripped apart by the media thereafter.
Has done well abroad and woulod certainly have a point to prove over here.
Like you say, he will want money and I also think our team would be taken apart root and branch as our current style isnt his way.
Wouldnt mind zola great manager he did ok at west ham dont think they gave him chance to prove himself. we are going to loose alot of our good layers this transfer window like
n’zogbia 12 million
Hugo Rodallega 10 million
James McCarthy 12 million (i have heard)
thats 34 million i would give at least 15/20 million of that to roberto or the next manager for player but whelen wont he can be gready at time
If roberto martinez goes (which i hope he dosn’t) who would or do you think will replace him
i seem to remember the ‘lightside’ claiming this was one of the reasons he should not be sacked in the past 2 seasons plus the fact “he bleeds blue and white blood” or “he loves wigan”
i would have thought that if his passionate love affair with WAFC was ever true, he would not be even talking to aston villa now.
seems now even if he stays – that he is just the same as any other footballer/manager.
seems now even if he stays – that he is just the same as any other footballer/manager.
If he stays it’s because of loyalty and affection to the club – I see no other reason as Villa have everything we have plus much more.
So if he stays he isn’t just the same as any other manager.[/quote]
so why is he there talking to them in the first place ?
– you dress it up however you feel you need to, martinez has proved by his actions so far that he is just the same as any other career minded individual !
My main worry if Roberto does go (and I’m still half thinking that this is some elaborate PR scam to highlight our manager’s undying love for Wigan) then I worry for what it will do for morale in our squad.
As we all saw from the last game of the season, the players love playing for him, which is one of the reasons why I think we didn’t have loads of dissent from unhappy players who weren’t playing last season.
Now if he goes, where does that leave our promising players like McCarthy and Moses who were attracted to the club by the manager and who were probably prepared to give him another couple of years as they continue their football development.
Then we have the Spanish speaking contingent who would have one eye on moving on and of course Ali.
We could end up with a decimated squad and no clear direction of where we are going as a club.
But and in my opinion, more importantly, we will have lost another manager who has Wigan at heart and who knows who we are and where we have come from.
I’m sure most of us at some point last season wondered whether we were going in the right direction under Bobby, but yet his positivity was unstinting and we pulled through in the final third of the season just like he said we would. I think the whole club got a massive lift as a result and we were all looking forward to next season.
But if he goes, where do we go from here and who could we get in to carry on his good work and keep our young talented squad together?
It’s a bit like the McCarthy situation. Fantastic potential and probably one day will play for a top team, but at the moment still has loads of developing to do. Bob’s the same. He will one day manage a top team but still only has two top level seasons behind him , and both relegation struggles , and is probably not yet ready for managing a club like Villa. He will know this and that’s why he’ll have at least one more season with us.
He’s also probably spent the last month or so trying to convince McCarthy , Zog & Hugo etc that we are on the verge of something good and they should stay and be a part of it. He’d look a right **** if it was him who then jumped ship first.
After the patience and total loyalty that Whelan has shown to him in the last two , sometimes horrific years I think he will give some back.
If he does go how do I delete this. :crying-yellow:
