Borrocks thirtytwoyears….we are way off that.

All we ask is to spend some of the money we make from players. Instead of it all disappearing.

In now way would I expect Whelan to panic and start spending stupid money.

But, you do have to say that over the past couple of seasons, a lot of the signings we have made have been absolutely dire. Most of the money we have spent, has been on duds. (King, Agrrrahalneverscorea, etc) The players we have brought in of late, have reeked of cheapness.

          Look at our current side:

Amaya, Cho, Thomas, Scotland, Gomez, Sinclair on loan, De Ridder, Bouaouzan (The point of is what exactly?) Diame, Kingson.

How many of them would get into another Premiership side? I’ll guess at none of them. Is it any coincidence that arguably our best players this season, are N’Zogbia, our record buy, and Scharner, who is the last player from that first season team. (I think he’d leave like a shot-don’t blame him)
If Whelan is being frugal due to past dud signings and money wastage, it’s not fair on Martinez. If he isn’t going to sack him, he could do with making some kind of supportive gesture. Not saying anything like daft money, but something better than what was spent on the list of players above. Sorry, but in this league, quality tells.

Far too many players in the squad who would be average or below average in the Championship.

Yick, I hear what you’re saying, but the money is being ploughed back into the club, paying wages, servicing debts, filling gaps from last year’s budget etc. It disappears into a big black hole. Clubs are trying to get debt free before the lights get switched on, and even after that, we won’t exactly be flush.

Look at Portsmouth or Hull. It’s far too easy to enter a big willy contest, but if you haven’t got the tackle, you’ll end up looking silly.

If this is all correct, and I do believe it is, we’d be better getting relegated, taking the 20 million or so ‘parachute payment’, selling Figueroa for 6 million, Scharner for about 5 million, Rodallega for 7 million, N’Zogbia for 7 million (couldn’t see him staying really), cutting the dead wood like Kapo, De Ridder, etc out, and starting from scratch with some British players, who will supplement the likes of McCarthy, Cywka, Kupisz, etc.
A big clear-out, or ‘fire-sale’, really. Have a steady season, mid table, and then go for a promotion season again, with new hunger in our side.

I’m sorry now, and I’ve called him rotten in the past, but if Jewell came back next week, with David Lowe as his number 2, I’d be more than happy. I think they’d have the ‘balls’ to do a job, but I also think we still might have to take a relegation on the chin in the process. I think we’ll regret it if he (Jewell) goes to Bolton. :(

I’d be extremely sad for Roberto, and would hope he’d bounce back elsewhere. Perhaps his shot at the Premiership just came too soon.

Personally think we should keep Bob and get shut of most of these mercenaries

can you please name these ‘mercenaries’as you call them, are they the ones who performed like heroes in previous seasons,or are they the ones who whelan said were brucie’s dodgy signings, but wait -non of them are playing under the spanish one ,perhaps is the new ‘pretty football types’ that martinez has signed for his ‘total football revolution’ so it must be scharner then because his contract is up soon.

well it is said on here on a regular basis so please someone must know who they are..
perhaps it could be the problem with a spanish ‘mercenary’ manager and his second rate backroom chancers[/quote]

Whether they are mercaneries or not, they are clearly not up for playing for Bob, so something has to change. Personally, I will wait and see what happens after February, which I realise may be too late for our premier league survival but, so what? And I don’t think bringing in a new bloke now, with Whelan’s likely budgetary constraints, will sort it.

Anyway, on that cheery note – happy new year everyone! I’m off for some pop.
