I didn’t hear anyone calling for the manager to be sacked then
The lunatics are really running the asylum on here nowadays. The fact that we lost by the odd goal ( and a freak goal at that ) to a side who are bursting with pace and power, already been in one cup final and chances for another and chasing a place in the top four is no disgrace in my book.
But then I’m not one of the spoilt, cry-ar5ing sanctimonious idiots who believes that Wigan Athletic should be challenging for one of those European places, I’m just a fan who has support the club since the early 80s and dearly would like us to stay up.
17 March 2010 at 12:25 pm #26721Well said, i reckon we deserved a draw!
17 March 2010 at 1:15 pm #26731Villa were as good a side as I have seen this season, and Milner was superb, I thought.
Got beat by a better side, and you just have to take that on the chin.
A draw wouldn’t have been undeserved, as we didn’t play badly.
17 March 2010 at 1:30 pm #26733The 0-0 at Villa Park last season could easily have been an 8-0 defeat.
17 March 2010 at 1:44 pm #26737hooray. A thread that contains some common sense. I was at the point of not bothering reading this board ‘cos of the unrealistic idiots who spout their drivel on it.
Well done Scholes. You’ve brought me back from the brink.
last night was a good performance, that was only let down by a freak own goal and an opportunistic strike that 9 times out of 10 would have hit someone’s legs and gone to safety.
We were a threat going forward until we let ourselves down with the final ball, but that is wholly down to confidence and the players not taking the responsibility of being the one to go for goal and miss. If we were sitting pretty in the table we would have made more of these opportunities and won the game. But that is the nature of this “fear football” that the media and the Sky money has created.
Somebody, somewhere has to try and survive in this league by doing something other than “grinding out” the odd 1-0 win and bore draw……and it looks like it’s us; and i’m willing to go with it because if it does work, maybe, just maybe, we can attract better footballers to little old Wigan and not the usual journeymen who ply their trade with any of the next crop of struggling clubs.
If Jose Mourinho was our manager, and Didier Drogba was our striker we would win more games. But they aren’t and never will be, but if we try and alter people’s preconceptions of the club by trying something other than “hoofball” it might just work. It might not – but i don’t give a toss, because at least we tried something different.There. Got that off mi chest :)

17 March 2010 at 1:51 pm #26741I have said all season that there are three to five worse teams than us in this division.
Three of those are now in the bottom three.
Those three come to the DW in the next few weeks.
Beat all three and we are 99% certain to stay up and would therefore deserve to. FACT! – the table doesn’t lie.
Fail to beat all three and we may end up relegated and would therefore deserve to, by the same token.
Beaten by a very good side last night in my opinion, but put up a decent effort and performance. It is another simple fact that our players are not as good as theirs, ergo we would tend to lose 9 times out of 10 against them. Milner, in particular, was awesome and as for Richard Dunne? – well, I went to pick up my pint in The Brick after the game and he even jumped up and headed that away. Missed nothing all night, that mon.
17 March 2010 at 4:17 pm #26797“the 0-0 at Villa last season could easily have been an 8-0 defeat”….suppose that was Bobby’s fault as well??
As for last night, yes there were faults with the performance, but overall we were unlucky to lose against a decent Villa side who had the 2 outstanding players on the park in Milner and Collins.

I think you’re agreeing with me Abram when I made the point about how heavily we could have lost away last season, I was being positive about this season.
