I saw enough to convince me be can beat Blackpool 3-0.
Forget the result, that doesn’t matter.
How good was Alcaraz?
How many good positions will Boselli get in?
N’Zogbia looks ‘up for it’.
Gohouri looks solid.
Stam looked sharp and hungry.
McArthur looks a great aquisition.
McCarthy looks like he’s been on the weights.
Diame looked hungry. Class.
Ben Watson? Superb.
If we start the match with the starting line up, plus maybe Stam, but then again Boyce did nothing wrong, then I am extremely confident we can get off to a good start.
We looked very neat and tidy, and definitely looked more settled with the system than last season.
5 August 2010 at 1:27 pm #41703I thought the right back ‘Jaap’ looked rather good. Got forward a lot more than others we’ve had.
5 August 2010 at 1:29 pm #41704I agree with you vat!
Ps i had the misfortune to sit in the west stand last neet  what a moaning bunch of old biddys! :o

Yeah, I thought we played really well. We actually played with a fast tempo and that Stam was brilliant down the wing always passing to someone then running into space, and he but some good crosses in aswell. Can’t wait for next season :)
5 August 2010 at 4:08 pm #41718We need to take our chances still. Hugo should have scored first half, Charlie should have done better with a chance he had. Yes its negative and a little harsh but in the PL we will be made to pay as we were countless times last year.
5 August 2010 at 4:15 pm #41719Warning! A “not-so-positive Griff post” alert!!
I think we still showed all the old problems of a total lack of creativity in the middle of the park and – N’Zogbia’s notable effort apart – a worrying lack of a killer instinct in front of goal.
I still like the way we play, and I can see signs in places that we are better at it than last year, but unless there is significant improvement particularly in the areas I mentioned above, then you can forget that Champions League place.
5 August 2010 at 4:34 pm #41722I still like the way we playYou mean you like your teams to play with a total lack of creativity in the middle of the park & a lack of killer instinct in front of goal?????

Don’t be obtuse. You know exactly what I meant.
5 August 2010 at 4:48 pm #41726Its quite simple really
Part 1. The Spanish (take last night) or anyone who plays this system, have someone to put the killer pass in to split the back 4, we have no one who can do that in our midfield. Oh yes, Gomez was bought to play the role but he is now consigned to the right wing!
Part 2. of the system needs a nominated midfield player to get in the box as well as quick as possible, again we have no one in our midfield who can do this – I know he is not everyones cup of tea but Lampard does it and how many does he score in a season

I’d like the way we play too if the players were any good at playing that way or the manager knew how to get em to play that way but so far neither seem to be happening
Still its only pre-season & I stopped caring about results in pre-season when Jones was still playing for us but if we still have players out of position (Rodallega) & the other problems you mention are still there it does make you wonder if Bobby has a) learnt anything from last season and/or b) sculpted the squad capable of playing “his way”

Part 3. get rid of Hugo
5 August 2010 at 8:48 pm #41741lack of pace in back four looks a major problem new forward looked ok but he will soon get p…….. off playing up there on his own who will win a header up front for us but its bobs team now so cant blame any one else now . looks like a long hard season to me / the question is can we scrap dont thing so does any one else
6 August 2010 at 5:20 am #41760new forward looked ok but he will soon get p…….. off playing up there on his own who will win a header up front for usYes, I’ve heard 4-4-2 is the system of choice in South America and they love a hoof from the keeper, big lad knocks it down for the little lad to smack it in.
6 August 2010 at 11:41 am #41765Certainly what we saw in the world cup wasnt it ! ;)
6 August 2010 at 2:46 pm #41772Adding my ten penneth, I think that where we are slightly faltering at the moment, is playing Rodallega on the left.
I know he’d probably get t’monk on if he was dropped, but I am sure that Victor Moses would give us a better balance.
What’s reckon?
