It’s started… Gary Roberts contract extension.
One for the future that is.22 February 2019 at 4:27 pm #176523Would you prefer that we released him?
22 February 2019 at 4:41 pm #176524Not now but at the end of the season when his present contract expires unless he has a coaching roll lined up with us.
22 February 2019 at 5:35 pm #176525One of the best trainers at the club, still perhaps the fittest member of the squad even at 34, a model pro who gives 100% in everything he does and never lets us down when we call on him.
I can see why he would be of no use around the place and someone the younger lads wouldn’t learn anything from.
22 February 2019 at 5:48 pm #176526He reminds me of a modern day mark hilditch. Not the best of players we have ever had, but certainly a player who always gives 110% everytime he is called on.
It’s a good signing IMO. He can certainly provide our youth that are coming through with all his experience.

Stop talking sense.
There’s nothing to whinge about when you’re talking sense.
22 February 2019 at 7:43 pm #176528Totally agree he gives 100% whenever he plays. However that’s what he and every other player should be doing anyway.
Face it though although he is the fans sweetheart if he plays one half he is knackered so all but useless to the side in the second half.
We have found this season has been a huge step up and if we stay up is he good enough for next season. If it hadn’t been for injuries would he have even made the bench this season?
It’s not moaning, it’s facing reality.
Have other Championship clubs been queuing up to sign him? and we’ve made a deal with him to fend them off?22 February 2019 at 8:38 pm #176530Totally agree he gives 100% whenever he plays. However that’s what he and every other player should be doing anyway.

No he probably wouldn’t have made the bench that often had we kept a fully fit squad but we have had injuries and we need to ensure that we have a SQUAD of players to deal with injuries. If you let every player go that isn’t in the top 18 then you won’t go very far.
23 February 2019 at 2:12 am #176537I find the hostility to him a bit surprising, I think he is a a decent player, no world breather, but none of our players are. I have never felt let down by him, and have certainly seen worse performances from windass , Evans, Naismith, and all of our strike force.
Injuries prove that you need players that can step up when the likes of Jacobs is injured as he would start ahead of him in my book, but when he has come in he has been reliable. If we didn’t extended them we would have to replace him, so the question for me would be who with and how much would it cost compared to simply extending a contract.
A reasonable if not sexy move in my book23 February 2019 at 2:42 am #176538I haven’t got any hostility towards him whatsoever. He always does his best and gives what every player should do and that’s 100%. That doesn’t however mean that alone merits yet another contract extension.
23 February 2019 at 3:15 am #176539I suppose we let him go and sign De Bruyne do we?
