Is football geared now towards the wealthy. By that I mean for the 45k+ kjoint income folk. It seems like the traditional low income folk are being priced out.
Premier League prices are ridiculous and you would have to be on that sort of income to follow your team.
Even in our league things have changed and pay on the day prices do not reflect the demographics of towns. Ok clubs offer great deals for fans in the way of season tickets but not all families or fans can put that sort of money together without going in to debt along with the other pressures on family income like holidays, kids clothes and computer games etc etc.
Look at Nob End the other night wth just over 9k in Deepshit, where it must have only been season ticket holders who were there. The high earning groups too 45k+s will struggle to pay out with higher mortgages/ rent etc (lifestyle choices).
Live football nowadays faces enough competition with people prepared to fork out stupid money to pay Sky etc so what can clubs do to get fans from lower incomes coming through the doors for casual games.
The answer is probably sweet fuck all. Zilch, Nowt.
Tomorrow must be the most expensive pay on the day price for a Latics v Fulham home game ever at£24.
Prices at Deepshit the other night for Cardiff were similar. £24 from a 10-15k a year salary is a fortune but from the well to do on £45 plus is a much smaller proportion. Twenty is plenty or even too much.

I agree. I’m lucky enough to fall in that “wealthy” bracket and get great value out of my season ticket but away game costs are expensive so I pick and choose. I could afford to go all if I really wanted to, but to volunteer to have my kecks pulled down to another clubs advantage really doesn’t appeal.

Isn’t it the case that the premier league away ticket are now capped at the twentys plenty rate?, if that’s so then to pay more for inferior product is plain stupid.

And whilst I’m on it…why are the prices for away supporters higher than the home supporters…rip off.

And another thing our prices for away fans do seem rather lower than what their clubs charge us at the corresponding away fixtures…rip off.

Looking at the home crowd today of around 9,800 which would include all the season ticket holders not many would have paid the cash out for what was probably the most expensive ever pay on the day price for the visit of Fulham.

We all know football is too expensive and £24 POTD is a lot for todays game, but in terms of our fans, unless you can only get to half the home games this season, why people wouldn’t buy a ST is beyond me. As the town hasn’t exactly lapped up the cheap tickets, the club have to look to make some matchday revenue

There has been a good uptake of season tickets and they are amazing value. From our crowds so far and taking off the away fans it’s looking like we must have sold around 9k+ which is good. The gesture by the board on season tickets has been fantastic but it is still £200 to fork out in one go or more depending on numbers in the family.
If you go in Asda for a shop you buy a weeks shopping or buy what you want. Asda don’t expect you to pay for a years shopping in advance.

I reckon the club will be disappointed with the amount if season tickets sold donny? I know I am, at them prices thought we’d have sold nearer 12k.

But as Abram says, the club need match day revenue and that is going to be largely by the away fans now.

But at the prices we charge away fan numbers will be well down on what they could be.
12k would be great but it is a big ask even with amazing prices.

Ah couldn’t agree more with you donny, I refuse to go to some away matches purely down to ticket price. Football is awash with money, but we supporters are not.

I personally think home clubs should be able to charge away fans the same price their fans were charged at the corresponding fixture. The current system of charging the same price as home fans is not right!

Smaller clubs (like us) need to attract fans, and this current pricing regime doesn’t suit us.

Me and my lad have started calling the queue at the east stand for overpriced tickets the “thick queue ”
How else could you explain somebody dense enough not to take advantage of £199 for 23 games but stupid enough to pay almost £30 for one game when they could get in for 4 games for the same price?
You most certainly do not need to be in the higher income bracket to take advantage of such a good deal but people, with go into bling st (sorry. King st) and waste that amount on copious amounts of drink and other substances once a month then moan about football ticket prices.
I paid 179 quid for 23 games and I just cannot understand the mentality of the numbskulls who pay the ridiculous on the day prices .
it isn’t for the wealthy it is for the committed and those that choose to buy a season ticket will find the cost much lower than tossers who attend games when the club is on a winning run etc.

Tossers? Bit strong. Some people struggle to find 200 quid in one lump some and in the summer when it’s kids holidays etc it’s hard to prioritise football. Others like to pick and choose as most games we play at home in championship seem to produce no goals for us. After beating bottom club we’ve scored one in three at home. Hardly the kind of action that’s gonna convince some not to pick and choose. The thick que may become the non existent que soon as on this form we will be down by Easter.

A night out in manchester would cost more than one of our season tickets.
As for the lump sum bit haven’t we invented something called a credit card now ?

Get in the real world. Like most blokes can afford to spend 200 quid on a night out in Manchester. Not sure I agree that folk should go into debt on a credit card to watch a load of overpaid over rated fellas kick a ball about. Proper football died in the early 90s. Hearts been ripped out.

Direct Debit. Costs an extra 20 and you pay 22 a month. Sorted.

How about just making it a tenner pay on the day for midweek games and fifteen on Saturdays then it would be sorted.
May even turn more money over than offering cheap season tickets. Even at those prices there would still be a saving by having a season ticket.

You could have had my season ticket on Saturday if you’d asked but you’d have probably moaned about the price of petrol when having to pick it up.

Price of football at Latics is one of the things folk really can’t whinge about.
