Possesional passing play is not mutually exclusive from direct football.

I was watching the DVDs of our first couuple of Prem seasons the other week and we might have been playing direct balls to the box, but once we had it there we passed it around beautifully, but didn’t over pass, before knocking in a dangerous cross that at least 2 players were in position to pounce on.

Last night’s overpassing, pussiness to stick a ball in the box and then passing back/giving the ball away in the box had me tearing my hair and my eyes out.

How can Bob after nearly 18 months not see that it just isn’t working?

Yeah thats what i mean, when we had Palacios he worked hard in midfield to get it out to the wing where he had Valencia who attacked palyers and put in crosses, playing to his and or strength, It was the same with Kavanagh and Teale, Then we had Bullard doing the Palacios roleand knocking it forward to two strikers, Ellington, Roberts etc, players who could make space for the other striker and create more, even bringing in the attacking midfielders. We had Lee McCulloch on the left, they liked to play it up in the air to him because he won it all the time and got it down further up the pitch and he had a good left back (Baines) supporting him, who also tracked back on the counter. Heskey played in his own area with the ball going directly to his head, Boring yes but high up the pitch and bringingothers into play. Our strongest threat is easy, N’Zogbia and Moses, Wont play them together though and instead plays 3 defensive midfielders deep and one lone striker high, I like Diame but i feel is wasted, Thomas is arguably one of the worst midfielders to play in our strip, Denny Landzaat would have been perfect for Martinez now but in the time of Heskey was wasted as a passing midfielder as it went over his head.

Play to our strengths, Martinez must realise we aint and he has to try something different.

You honestly been watcing us this season. Thomas isnt perfect but he has played well more often than not.

    WHAAAAT!!!!!!

You have to be joking, I mean you just have to be, He ALWAYS gives the ball away and ALWAYS gives far too many needless fouls away.

Figeuroa, Thomas, and a few others are nowhere near good enough and there are a few other suspect ones.

Remember everyone coming on here bumming Di Santo after 20 mins sub appearance and bollocking me because i said he didnt look all that good and ran around like a headless chicken in reply to you lot saying he was world class e.t.c, All he did was run after the ball a few times. My god i must be Messi if you consider that quality.

You have anger issues, don’t you Yosser? ;)

I don’t recall everybody calling Di Santo “world class”

But yeah, we can all stop having opinions about players until we’ve checked with you first, if you like ;)

I’m all for a CL list of player opinions, maybe we could have a laminated card to take to the game in case of confusion.

I think Di Santo has played ok in the games I saw him in, maybe I havent been to that many.

I can handle you having a go at Thomas, but not Figgy. Where, sorry WHERE did that come from !

I have to disagree. Thomas has been one of our better players this season, but I get very nervous when watching Figgy. In fact he looks very nervous when I see him play.

I was being a bit cheeky with the comments. My previous comments on here have ben in support of Thomas. Figgy has been awful but he has a cheeky smile !

Some people think that you shouldn’t comment or give your opinions if you are not at the game and just watching in at home.

You can mention me by name as that one was me. To be honest I have no problem at all with people commenting on the game.

What I do find a tad distasteful is when people come on here during or immediately after the game slating the manager or players for lack of effort when the only effort they’ve made themselves is to sit there in their bedroom in their underpants watching the game on a webfeed whilst eating cheesy wotsits (OK now I’m stereotyping  )

What started off as a pleasant novelty for those who couldn’t make it to away games is now serving to propogate a witch-hunt from a pitchfork waving mob of keyboard warriors every time we lose a game.

Oh for the days when we were restricted to Matt McCann’s commentary’s in the lower divisions, contrary to popular belief, plenty of cack performances were served up then, The difference being that he made Leyton Orient v Droylsden sound like Barca v Real

I said ” Some ” Jimmy because you are not the first to mention it ! In all sincerity when is a good time to voice ones opinion that the manager is NOT the one for the job ? I find that just after another dismal display the thought comes to the fore and therefore I find it the most convenient time to further vent my spleen ! Its a sort of ” When is the penny gonna drop for this man ?” type scenario and I cant resist asking the question, unfortunately time and time again ! :(

Thomas being one of our better players is a bit relative though isn’t it? It’s not taking much for anyone to shine at the mo.

A few of us London Latics were talking before the game and we were all of the opinion that we didn’t really ever notice either Diame or Thomas. All of us felt they were both generally invisible, and we were surprised by how much everyone rates them, esp. Thomas this season.

None of us really knew why this was. Maybe we’re missing something as we don’t get to as many games as we used to, and when we do 50% of our attention is on the banter. Maybe it’s a sign of how good they both go about their jobs and don’t draw too much attention to the fruits of their labour. Maybe it’s because none of us feel any real connection to any of the players like we used to.
