FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
17 September 2013 at 1:59 pm #121107I don’t know if it’s good or bad but somehow the bookies have us as slight favourites, Latics 6/4, Waregem 13/8. They mustn’t have watched the Leicester game
Of course if you want to guarantee a Latics win, just get your mortgage on Waregem to win :)
17 September 2013 at 3:48 pm #121113I’ll be interested to see the team that Coyle selects.
Thursday Brugge away
Sunday Ipswich home
Tuesday Manchester City awayI presume the team will be flying to Belgium – the travelling could have been much worse for all three games. Even so, three games in six days is a tough schedule. There is bound to be some team rotation.
Which game will Coyle give top priority? My guess is Ipswich. That would make progress in the other two competitions more difficult.
17 September 2013 at 4:40 pm #121115Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Leicester 2-0 WAFC
Sign of things to come, one understandable eye on Europe or a kick up the backside?
17 September 2013 at 6:26 pm #121119Wtf are the bookies thinking?
The only reason I can think is they’re understimating the Belgian league and taking into account the neutral venue. Either way they are a great price.
17 September 2013 at 6:33 pm #121120Their defence on that one clip looks a bit static, both balls in behind and high crosses. Doubt we’ll be doing that much in the way of getting balls in from wide areas. Could have done with Holte fit tbh. Probably relying on Maloney and Gomez crafting something or McManaman having a few runs at them. Either way we’d be relying on our one man in the box being on top of his game. Striker desperately required or get plenty of free kicks around the box for Maloney.
17 September 2013 at 7:05 pm #121121We made enough chances against Forest, and that was without Holt. Perhaps it succeeded because it was without Holt. We had Maloney playing just behind Fortune.
However, you can’t pick a team for Brugge without planning for the Ipswich and Manchester City games too. Surely players can’t be expected to play in all three.
So perhaps it’s a chance to give some new/young players a place in the first team. Besides, we’ve got enough midfield players to field a different midfield four in each game.
McClean McArthur McCann McManaman
Beausejour Gomez Watson Maloney
Redmond Espinoza Fyvie PowellWe’re short of forwards though. Dicko might have to play in one game, and Maloney may have to support the one forward.
18 September 2013 at 8:20 pm #121176It’s going to be all change for the game in Brugge;
“The McManamans, the McCleans, Powell and Shotton will certainly start the game and there is no doubt of their quality.
“It’ll be good to see that combination with the players there.
“Powell and Shotton will make their debuts from the start, obviously Nick played a little on Saturday so it’s a great opportunity for those kind of boys. If Grant (Holt) was fit and Marco there, it still wouldn’t be an ideal situation with two (strikers) and we’re still looking to try to add to that.
“As it is, Marco is there and it may very well be that Marco may get a rest on Thursday and come off the bench.”
It looks like Dicko to start at centre forward then. I’m not sure how many McManamen there are.
19 September 2013 at 3:40 pm #121197Latics UEFA Europa League Squad:
Scott Carson, Lee Nicholls,
Stephen Crainey, Ryan Shotton, Thomas Rogne, Emmerson Boyce, Juan-Carlos Garcia, James Perch, Leon Barnett,
Chris McCann, Ben Watson, Shaun Maloney, Callum McManaman, Jordi Gomez, James McArthur, Roger Espinoza, Nick Powell,
Grant Holt, James McClean, Nouha Dicko, Mark Antoine Fortune.Although Coyle insists the main focus this season will be an immediate return to the Premier League, he has given tomorrow’s game just as much concentration as he would do any other.
The Latics boss admits he hasn’t even thought about Sunday’s Championship game against Ipswich and everybody at the DW is fully focused on picking up three points in Europa League Group D first.
Really? Shaun Maloney has not travelled to Brugge. I wonder if Coyle has considered playing him against Ipswich.
