I cant remember the first thirty or so years of Latics history but certainly I struggle to think of a more negative type of football.
One up front, no real attacking full backs, no balls through for strikers to run on to, no real wing play. Remember Bainesy or even Judas Chimbonda, they made chances for strikers.
I dont mind being anywhere in the league if we played good football. It was dire when we were bottom of the fourth division and struggling, but at least we didnt have the frustration of seeing some half decent players wasted like nowadays.
On paper we have players that if played in a positive manner would have the ability to have pushed on and scored just a few more goals and hence pushed us away from the precipice we are on now.
Going down is no shame but going down sitting back in your own half is.
Thing is if we were safe today three or four of those better players would have been sold allready and that famous war chest kept tightly shut.
mmm Not sold anyone yet and on the verge of relegation and that war chest is gathering dust again.
