Two years to the day 11th March 2012, Wigan Athletic fans did the club and town proud by walking from the DW stadium to the Reebok in Bolton in aid of a young Wigan girl Emma Hoolin, over £20000 (yes 20 thousand) was raised.

Roberto Martinez and the team also did us proud that day coming away with a well deserved win, it was also the start of something special.

Club captain Gary Caldwell acknowledged that seeing the fans walking that day brought the best out of the players, it was also probably the catalyst of the believe campaign and meet and greets, it led to an amazing sequence of results that took us away from what looked like certain relegation, during the following couple of months we were treated to a run of games and form that were arguably the best that any Latics fan has ever seen.

To add icing to the cake young Emma went into remission and has never looked back.

Anyhow this little dip into our ‘glorious history’ has a motive.

On Saturday 29th of March we play Bolton at the Reebok for the first time since that day and we are planning to do it all again, and this time the cause is just as deserving,

It is in aid of research into the disease that young Joseph Kendrick suffers from NKH, Joseph is the son of Wigan Observers WAFC correspondent Paul.

Last time it was a great day out and many on here expressed their regret at not being able to make it, well now this is your chance to do it we need as much support as possible, hopefully many of you can do the walk this time and any help organising it will be a great help.

A little different from last time, something we learned, busses will be provided back this time from the Reebok so anyone walking can get back to Wigan town centre without dropping cars off earlier in the day or getting someone to pick them up, the cost for this service will be just £3.00 pp.

Jayt will be posting something shortly with further information and details of how to register but the format will be similar to the last walk with a refreshment stop at a midway point.

Can everyone please try and do the walk or sponsor those that are doing it if you cant make it yourself, close to 350 people did the walk last time, lets see if we can get more this time.

Another of the fantastic initiatives organised by fans for the benefit of fellow fans. We have a great community spirit.

      I hope the weather improves.

C’mon Griff why don’t you do the walk instead, we can advertise you are walking and sell rotten fruit for all folk you have insulted on here to throw at you, we’d make a fortune.

There is a better than even chance that I will be doing it, actually. No issue with the fruit thing either but I guess, given the “throwers” you have in mind, if their aim is anything like their football knowledge I should be perfectly safe – most missiles will land wide of the mark ;)

Griff, driving thru Leyland tonight I saw some lads wearing Latics shirts throwing fruit at what appeared to be a cut out head nailed to a fence. It looked like they were practicing or summat ;) :cheer:

That’s what passes for a night out in Leyland ;)

By the way, there seems to be a distinct lack of Leylandi on here since we reverted to intelligent, non-childish posts. Go figure! ;)
