Awful performance…
Probably worst miss ever by a Latics player…although Mullin went close when he ‘scored’ (just) as he bundled over the line…Burton at home I think it was)
Murray said to be going…Hibernian.
Caldwell looking to bring in an 18 year old winger from Villa….he was using the ‘we’ve a lot of kids’ excuse after the game.
Well I tell you Gary, we need some older pros to come in. There’s no balance. Sign Will Keane, Daniel Johnson and Joe Ralls. They would help us no end.
Its going off on Twitter. Caldwell Out has been mooted. Plenty of abuse at the Dansons. Latics Fans and Rugby fans falling out. They always pop up at our low points….its always there under the surface. Isn’t it?
Clubs falling apart. Transfer deadline on Tuesday, MK Dons at home on Wednesday.
Amazing.
31 August 2026 at 7:35 am #207557We’re three games in and 9 times out of 10 that match would’ve ended up in a convincing victory.
You can’t legislate for misses like that, which is 100% on the player and zero % on the manager, coaching staff, director and owner.
I’m still optimistic for it to click. Hopefully this will be on Wednesday night.
I’m not sure about having Keane back after he walked out on us.

31 August 2026 at 10:25 am #207559Wouldnt be surprised to see Murray go and dont blame him. Hes an attacking right mid, when he first joined he was hugging the touchline putting over some great crosses and scoring a few .. so why the hell someone decided to play him left full back at times is beyond me .. we see this from all our recent managers recently .. suck all the creativity out of the wings and ask the wingers to play full back .. none of which can tackle, and certainly last season was one of the main reasons for being caught on the counter… what is it with this club that just wants to defend, defend, defend .. wingers get crowds going, wingers get crosses in, wingers score goals .. until they come latics and they are converted, lose all their motivation and key attributes.. then leave. Sorry, but Caldwell has to take his fair share of this crap as well – some baffling decisions on positioning and formation, and agree wit Vat- ive never seen as many misses in a match, especially that one … we could and should have easily had 5 in that game, and until the fundamental issue of signing someone who is proven goalscorer is resolved, no one can expect anything to change, including caldwell. Im normally in the positive camp, and i know its only 3 games in, but this football is absolutely shocking, simple passes and chances amiss .. then the opposition gets to the ball first, or cuts out the pass – all our own doing, no clue or desire to get to the ball first or bully the opposition – worst since the swain era.
31 August 2026 at 12:44 pm #207560I don’t get it…..these players are not Premier league versatile players. They’ve probably since childhood been honing their skills into 1 or 2 positions……..they come here and are asked to play a totally different specialist role. They struggle, confidence drops and the reason we signed him is ignored. Eventually they want to leave or are dropped. Caldwell certainly has to take responsibility…..some of his recent selections are unfathomable. Very honest interview concerning the striker hunt…….Wareham available but unless there’s a major financial shift that boat has sailed. Peterborough sign Ormerod from Fylde apparently 600k. Heard we approached them 2 weeks ago………….no idea if we made offer……but can guarantee it no where near Peterborough’s. It’s simple…..get a goalscorer or 2…..spend some cash and I believe we can turn the corner. Rely on what we have and nothing will change. Mr Danson must realise that league 2 football would virtually wreck and potential investment or purchase so a small outlay surely makes business sense.
2 September 2026 at 6:50 am #207583If we get turned over tonight, it will turn nasty.
Club have absolutely taken us all for mugs. They think sales were down on ST’s this summer? Wait til next summer then…
If I was Caldwell, I’d walk. Being set up to be tbe man who takes us down to League 2. The fact we haven’t brought A striker in is staggering. Even if we had gone to maybe…oh I don’t know, Accrington Stanley and signed Josh Woods, who is a young striker. At least then its a body in and someone with potential as an actual striker. But to bring nothing in? Bloody hell.
And a squad lacking experience also. Really worries me. Have we even TRIED to get Will Keane back? Or one of the 2 experienced midfielders I have been touting? Both also free agents? I don’t get the club at all.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Murray, Carragher and Fox want away. They aren’t mugs and this is in no way the club they joined.
Caldwell is either feeling very cheesed off, or is a stubborn fool regarding Sonny Perkins. If its the latter, he will die by his own sword and probably be gone by November.
Disgraceful transfer window. Around 6.5 mil in and nothing reinvested. The absolute asset stripping and managed decline of a football club.
But at least we still have a club, eh?
2 September 2026 at 7:53 am #207584Rumour is were signing someone but it will only be announced next week, wtf is that about??.
That can only mean he’s a free agent i.e. Keane or Hogan etc. Then I hear we made two bids for Woodhouse, that made me laugh. That’s nothing more than a PR stunt, bid pennies but at least it looks like we’re trying to spend.
Didn’t big Dave do this with Michael Owen then we later found out it was a PR stunt.
So here’s my thoughts:-
Drop Perkins and lob Moseley in up top. Moseley’s 21, a year younger than Perkins so right now we need someone in. If he has that natural goal scoring ability he will grow into the role but he has to be thrown in there’s no other way.
I remember Macca, Lang, Geldhardt, Aasguard, all been thrown in at the deep end. And the biggest of them all Baines and look what he went on to do.
In Dansons time the club has made roughly £13million from the sales, sell ons, compensation of players and Robinson to come if he moves on in 2027.
To date we have spent approx £600,000 on signing on fees. Large chunks have been paid out in loan fees and wages.
The club recently received £1million sell on fee for Geldhardt that had nothing to do with Danson but again this gets put back into the running of the club.
For me a minimum of 50% of all sell on money should be reinvested but that will never happen while we’re under the ownership of a guy who does not give two flying fcuks about the club.
What owner never meets the manager ?, have you ever heard Caldwell mention Dansons name or say the owner?, if you have your very lucky.
So the summer transfer window has closed and for me this is the main window not Jan.
You do your best business in the summer set your squad out then hopefully your in a strong position by Jan.
If you dont build your squad right in the summer Jan turns into a desperate transfer window we’re owners say, :- “Well if we buy him and we go down we’re stuck with him on decent wages”
For me, looking at the squad right now, the performances, the shocking defending and woeful finishing were in trouble and Caldwell knows it.
This summer transfer period is probably the worst I’ve seen. Now Caldwell has to gel a side while trying to survive.
We’ve signed kids on loan when we’ve 2 or 3 who are knocking on the door so again for me a waste of money.
I’ve seen Reggie Walsh and although he’s OK he’s definitely no Reece James. I’m 100% positive we’ve young lads in our youth just as good. Now we’ve signed a 17 winger ?. It seriously doesn’t add up.
Your own youth will give alot more than some kid on say £5k a week on loan. The loaned players knows he’s going back regardless we’re as the youth player is playing for his club and career.
If we lose against MK Dons & Stockport even though it’s early days we’ll move closer to L2 and who do we blame ?
DANSON
a guy who got what he wants the stadium and now wants rid. Never forget he’s no more than a custodian. Wigan Athletic will hopefully still be around when me and him are pushing up daisies.
At least the Chinese and Arab lot screwed up spending, Danson is a financial boa constrictor on the club.
Squeezing the finances to the point we suffocate and we keep sliding down down down till we’re back we we started
Non League
Nevermind Caldwell out
Danson sell up and stop the torture

2 September 2026 at 8:11 am #207588Fully agree.
Bank half, reinvest half, of any transfer money received. Simple as that.
We also, unless any news comes out late this morning, still have players on the books who have next to no chance of playing, such as Ronan Darcy. McManaman is also. Daft, waste of a wage.
When you look around as well, there are loads of players currently unattached. Its criminal Matt Smith is just floating around somewhere…jogging round a park somewhere, probably. Will Keane still playing in the PFA games.
The so called late attempt to get Humphreys was embarrassing. Not even sure how serious it was. Why would Caldwell go for him? Hes never managed him and doesn’t know him. It could be utter bullshit. “Well, we tried…” But DID they?
Tonight will be interesting…
2 September 2026 at 8:22 am #207589Tonight will not be a night for the “Happy Clappers”.
The atmosphere will turn vitriolic if we produce another shambolic performance. There is more pressure, than ever before, facing GC and the team for this game. Can they handle it, or will they bottle it ?
2 September 2026 at 8:32 am #207590I think Humphrys will sign, Bradford wanted a stupid amount of money for a player with only a year left on his contract.
I’d imagine he’s on approx £8k + a week £400,000 a year. But the thing is, he’s not even made the bench in 5 league and cup games this season and Bradford lie in 6th.
So what do they do with a player that’s not in the managers plans ?. Do they waste £400,000 on a year’s wage or mutually agree to cancel his contract so he can leave and save them a lot of money.
It’s not like there’ll be a queue in Jan so tbh it might be a good bit of business for both clubs.
That’s why there’s a delay, it’s to finalise the cutting of ties and negotiate with us at the same time, something that would have possibly been too complex on the final day to sort.
Humphrys for me will sign next week, that’s my thoughts
