Can anybody confirm that Brazil World Cup Legend, Jairzinho, attended a Latics game quite a few years back, and did a pitch side walkabout, signing autographs and shaking hands? Or have I totally dreamed this happened? Might have been around 2002 ish.
It was to do with us signing Magno Silva Viera from his football academy. I shook his hand and therefore I’ve met both he, and Pele. Thanks to Dave Whelan.
Was just thinking about it and telling the kids, as I dug out the 1970 World Cup programme yesterday whilst having a sort out.
As far as I can remember, yes he did – & yes it was all part of that supposed link up between his academy & Latics that never came to fruition
Rings a bell.Wasn’t it to do with helping to recruit possible Brazilian players ? Some kind of ambassador?….Probably lasted the time it took him to walk around the pitch.
Didn’t Magno Vierra stay in England and played most his career here ?
