Been reading a few reports on News Now linking him with a loan move to Ipswich which came as quite a surprise since he was apparently knocked back on a move to Celtic in the last window because he was firmly in Malkys plans for survival.
What came as even more of a surprise was the point that we pay him 20 grand a week.
That is A WEEK ffs not a year, not even a month but a week. Plenty of huff, plenty of puff but at 20k a week for a winger who can not put a cross in no. Let him go. Get shut or give him away for free asap.

And of course these newspapers always get their facts correct don’t they?

If there is any truth in that £20,000 a week, it makes me worry how much we’re paying Grant Holt to sit on his arse. He was signed at the same time by the same manager, wasn’t he? And a bigger name at the time, too.

            28 grand a week apparently.

Had the idiot of manager we had at the time played him instead of loaning him out, the 28K a week could have been money well spent as I bet he would have scored a lot more goals than McLean, Fortune, Delort, Riera, Waghorn and McKay combined.
Add those six players wages together who have amassed around 7 goals in total this season and it makes Holts wages look like chicken feed.

A years wage for some who will have to put in over 60 hrs a week getting up at silly hours and where a 15 hour day is deemed normal. Wonder if he fancies a swap

I seem to remember Grant Holt as being, ineffective, lazy, overweight, and un-fit.

At the time we signed him, I thought he would be a great signing that would be capable of bagging 25 goals a season.

Unfortunately the reality was considerably grimmer.

I doubt he would have reached 7 goals by now.

Holt may have had a chance if played with a strike partner and if played in a settled side.
The lad has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career so why as he not at Latics??

I’ve no doubt that the one up top formation that Coyle employed him in was part of the reason his Latics career never really got off the ground coz never in the memory of man was he a loan striker & even the Norwich fans who idolise him will tell you he went off the boil when they changed to that system.
However, I also feel that some part of it was that after coming from non-league one of the reasons for his success was his hunger & desire to prove himself and that part of him came to Latics as one last pay day before he finished & that hunger (in footballing terms at least) & desire had diminished
