Did anyone notice on Saturday the way he chased the long punt down field, held off two players and laid it back perfectly for charlie to thrash into the top corner.?
Fair point, but surely that’s what he’s paid for, plus more.
My take on this is that the lad is trying his best, but at the moment looks just a shade out of his depth. I think he lacks in some facets of his game to succeed long term as a target man in the managers system.(eg heading ability a la heskey). What disappoints me is the fact the martinez must have known this when he signed him.As a target man you MUST have the ability to knock on the high ball to other players with your head and Scotland can’t do that.
Ok so we now play the ball to feet when we can, and there lies a problem. At times we have to change, we can’t because of Scotlands lack of ability in the air.
yeah saw him do that, but i dont think anybody saw what was coming next from zoggie, and what did he do for the other 89 mins
Enough to get 7/10 in the paper unlike 7 or 8 others on our team!!
OK he’s not set the prem on fire but there’s some potential and I can see him improving every game. I really think some fans were not prepared to give him a chance after just one game and only see the negatives.
Did you see Rodallega squander 3 or 4 golden opportunities in the first half? I did and not one fan moaning about him on here.
As for Hugo, remember when he first got in the team? Oh dear oh dear, he would have been on the first boat back to Columbia if some fans had their way.
Lets judge martinez, his system, his backroom staff, his buys, his positives in defeat, his shoes, whatever else people want to find fault with, at the end of season and not after 3 or 4 months. The standards reached in the chelsea and Villa game are our benchmark, consistancy is the next goal for Bobby and co to achieve.
Patience should be the fans goal, not moaning after every defeat and then being over elated when we win.
I wish some of you could have been watching our lads when I first started watching them away at Goole Town and South Shields on a cold wet Tuesday neet. No team, no support, no prospects no nothing. I know you shouldn’t look back and we have to move on blah, blah, blah, but we are holding our own in the prem FFS.
I was totally gutted after saturdays defeat and losing litterally spoils my weekend, but look at the first half display and the miniscule difference between going in 3 or 4 up, game over, to going in 1-0 and losing to 3 ridiculous goals.
Correct me if I’m wrong but, Jason Scotland didn’t miss Larssons cross or let Benitez run free at goal or let a soft free kick in at the near post. Ger off his back FFS!!
i have been going watching the latics since 1976,i am not a jcl,and scotland is not good enough and it isnt just me saying it other people are saying the same wether it be on here or at the stadium.I am not judgeing bob because i do think we have the right man for the job but he must be given time
good post jrfatfan……
he has been bought to score goals (which he aint) but also he is there to hold up play to bring in hugo and zog, were we look to have a 3 pronged attack, surely people wont call zog for not getting down the right wing and crossing the ball or hugo going down the left, because they cant do it as they are both opposite footed and they have to cut in and lay off or shoot.
Strange how the first 10 games of the season he was regularly named in the team of the week for the premiership. Maybe once he scores his first we will see a new side to him !
I agree that Scotland is being made a scapegoat and once you’re in the boo boys sights it’s very difficult to win them over. The shot against the post against Sunderland could be a “sliding doors ” moment for him.
I remember the City game thinking that he had a cracking game , but towards the end I could hear the usual moans and groans. So later in the week I watched the game again on Sky , and he DID have a really good game. However in the 80th minute he had the ball on the half way line , slipped over and therefore lost possession. You could actually hear the groans on TV and all that had gone before was instantly forgotten by some.
As JR says , when Hugo first arrived I remember saying in one game that he was the new Agahowa !!! :o
