Gomez is pretty much the worst possible replacement for Beausejour in my opinion. Beausejour is a wing-back. He, and Boyce, are not out and out wingers and that’s what people forget when they tout Miyachi and McManaman as replacements. A lot of Beausejour’s work is defensive and Gomez isn’t exactly renowned for his defending.
The only real replacement for Beausejour I see in the squad is Figueroa, or possibly even Stam – but I don’t know what Stam’s left foot is like.
20 November 2012 at 3:38 pm #96881Miyaichi and Mcmanaman are awful shouts, only time they should be put there is for the last 20 or so if we are trailing.
I wouldn’t say he is the ‘worst’ replacement for him but if he could improve defensively (As they say Beausejour has had too) then I think he would give us a lot more than Beausejour going forward.
I said earlier I think Figs could do well there if given time to adapt to it but is he needed in the back 3 too much?
I seem to remember seeing Stam score a screamer on the clips I watched of him, from 40 yards or so! That’ll do for me ;) (YouTube it)Edit: Screamer with his left foot!

Disagree. I would pick Gomez over Beausejour any day.
Come to think of it, I’d pick Leigh Jenkinson over Beausejour any day. At least he tried to beat his man. Usually failed, but tried all the same.

Fine going forwards – I agree with you. But when the opposition are in possession, he’s expected to drop into left back. Would you want Gomez in at left back?20 November 2012 at 4:01 pm #96884Get Peter Kennedy signed back up. He could play that LWB position with ease!!
20 November 2012 at 4:14 pm #96886Get Peter Kennedy signed back up. He could play that LWB position with ease!!Or Kevin Sharp
20 November 2012 at 6:18 pm #96893Think Alan Mahon could crack the LWB spot?
20 November 2012 at 6:30 pm #96894David Glenn or David Fret well?
20 November 2012 at 6:58 pm #96897Steve McMillan! Born to play that role!

Alan Tankard gets my vote
Ceriously though, Beusejour is 2 stone over weight and Boyce is past
21 November 2012 at 12:48 am #96931Did nobody notice how many times Stam from the right cut inside and put in several great crosses with his left foot last time he played ? He gets up and down the byline and for me at this present juncture is the one for the role of left wing back.
21 November 2012 at 12:57 am #96933no you cant play a right footer on the left unless he is special why not play fig further up and bring in lopez in the back three
