If Jimmy Bullard didn’t want to earn £X grand a week for the 3 years from 2005-2008 (or however long his contract was) but actually wanted £X+X grand a week then he shouldn’t have signed the contract in the summer of 2005
I’m guessing that he signed it coz his agent knew it was the best offer he would get at the time. By April 2006 his agent started to twist his ear that some clubs had contacted him & were prepared to offer Bullard the £X+X grand a week so he should go back to the Latics board & demand a new contract for that amount or he’d be off
That to me is mercenary. Its exactly what I’d probably do in the same circumstances but its still mercenary. another poster further up the thread had it right when they said “every pro-footballer is in it for the money”
They are & my initial point was trying to show that Bullard was no different than any of the others as the first poster was trying to do
Bullard was probably a bit different as if anybody deserved the pay rise it was him….100% regardless and was a very good player…
In my eyes he is a true pro and a wigan athletic legend and i refuse to see him as anything else

Well at least you’re not just posting foodstuffs.
Have to say I am with Tyldesley on this one. Jimmy was a good lad generally but they are all in it for what they can get and I don’t blame them one little bit.
Of course they’re all in it for the money Griff but lets bwe honest.. Dont you think if anybody deserved it that it was JB? especially if half of the team were on a higher wage?

Possibly, but I can’t find much sympathy for any of them with the ridiculous money they earn. Good luck to them, but my heart won’t bleed for anyone who complains that he should get £30k per week rather than his £25k per week just because the fella next to him in the dressing room has £30k a week and a better agent.
That was just a generic example, by the way, not aimed at JB or anyone else.
Fair point.. Its not like he NEEDS or any of them NEED more than 25k per week when us regular folk are living off 25k a year etc… Reeto im off to Carcraft now looking for a car so see ya laterz ye G….

Tyldesley and Griff, i take your point, see where your’e coming from but still disagree, for me Jimmy Bullard will always be a legend, and can’t be thought of in the same vaine as Chimonda and the likes. It is common place to have contracts renewed before they end and he is not going to ask for less when he is playing at a higher level is he?
p.s
To Mr Logic and whoever else you post as, this is how a few posters disagree on a certain subject (good points from both sides) without resorting to name calling and ripping someones spelling.
I actually feel sorry for Jimmy. No-body deserves the injury nightmare he’s had during the last year.
He’s a class player and will prove it in a dire Hull team.
On the topic of him being a ‘mercenary’-I actually feel alot of what came out was spun by Mr Whelan and his PR machine. I don’t think he wanted to leave but was forced out for daring to ask for the deal he deserved.

a legend, don’t make me laugh. none of the players in the last 10 years(apart from dezeuw) are anywhere near latics legends.
Having read that article and then some of the posts beneath it, I saw this:-

There are alot of City fans with very short memmories. If we stay in the Premier we will again struggle to compete with the budgets available to most. We will lose more games than we win. If we go down we can compete on a more level playing field and hope to get promoted to the Premier, where we will lose more game than we win and again listen to the moans of “life long” fans tell us how great things were under the most successful manager we have ever had in Phil Brown. Again this does not apply to all of you, but i am sick of hearing people who have apeared in the last couple of seasons telling me that Brown has to go after guiding the club to highest ever position.
