I know there is a lot of speculation about Jimmy Mac leaving but I have a theory that he wants the chance at winning the charity shield before he pushes for a departure.

I would love him to stay and I know it’s only talk but my Missus (I was at work) was impressed with how sincere he sounded about staying together to get back in the PL during the town centre parade. However, if we are offered 15m that would be good for the club and we do have a wealth of talent in the midfield so we could afford to lose him for the greater good.

No one seems to mention him, but Fraser Fyvie really impressed me in the short time he had on the Aston Villa game at the end of the season. Based on what I had seen earlier in the season he appeared to have come on leaps and bounds and looked like he had some real class (yes it was only 30 minutes).

      Does anyone agree?

      Completely agree.

I think he is of similar ilk to McCarthy in he looks comfortable going forward or sitting deep.

I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities for him to show what he can do this season.

Regardless of how important McCarthy considers it to be I can’t for the life of me see how a desire to play in the charity shield would hold sway over some lucrative offer to play in the Premiership.

I would hazard a guess and say that any offers thus far have either not met the club’s valuation and/or not been of significant interest to unsettle the player.

As for having a ready replacement in Fyvie, I’ve not yet seen anything from him that would suggest he’s anywhere near as good as McCarthy.
