Ali reminded me of this mon yesterday. One of the worst goalkeeping performances by a Latics player for some years. Good job he has produced some of the finest too. Put united behind us and move on. Hardly any team wins at old trafford any road.

What you actually mean to say is one of the worst team defensive displays by Latics for some time.

Shocking goals all four (Al Habsi, Ramis, McCarthy etc.) Masters of our own misfortune.

Ramis for me still looks slower than a week in Mallorca, mid-winter. Caught in possession yesterday (2nd), no attempt to tackle (3rd). Week in week out… defensively we are not at the races

Robbie interviewed yesterday said we are Work in Process.

Yet fundamentals (end 2011/12 season) are still in place (VM excepted) :

Back to Basics for Fulham (our bogey team) next week :

      Al Habsi
      Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figeuroa
      Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour
      Maloney, Di Santo, Miyaichi

      Tough game anticipated …

We seem to have developed a habit of performing rather badly upon returning from international breaks. Quite why that should be when other teams of comparable resources tend to cope better is a mystery. So playing Manchester United away yesterday was possibly the worst fixture we could have been handed.
Best not to analyse it too much and move on to the next game.

Ali is allowed the occasional bad game. The guy has kept us up the last two seasons.

Agreed – everyone has an off day. Saturday certainly was for Ali – should have held the first, should have claimed the ball across the goal area for the 2nd & should have been able to deal with a pretty tame shot for the 3rd.
Admittedly the defending was pretty shocking for the 2nd & 3rd goals too. Not to mention the 4th where (ignoring the hot potato defending from those who were back) there seemed to be a massive gap, totally devoid of Latics players between the 6 in the 18 yard area & the others who must have been hovering around the half way line that allowed Powell to run unchallenged & get his shot in.

I wonder why it is that against the other “big clubs” that when Latics go a goal down they still seem to be able to keep their peckers up but against United 1 goal conceded invriably means they’ll be 3 or 4 down within 15 minutes?

Ramis isnt good enough, playing in the “poshscotch league” in Spain means jack poo.
And McCarthy should have been subbed before he made his school boy pass error. The only positive was to see Gomez come on and take it upon himself to try to play a through ball rather than the sideway ball which we are hell bent on doing for 90 mins.
Trying to keep posession is fine but at some point the ball has to go forward or else Kone might as well fire off as well.
