Yes Al best ever football I can ever remember during his tenure and it didn’t change each time it got us promoted. We had a go at teams irrespective of if they were considered a big club/promotion hunting club etc.
We got the same. Wide men and strikers and like you say we used to come off the matches knackered.
Some argue the game has moved on and football cannot be played like that anymore. Some argue it is big boot which it wasn’t. Some think it isn’t a passing game which it can be. Some think it will leave us wide open in the middle. Well what ever it was it wasn’t lay down on your back like a Labrador puppy when a big dog snaps at it and it got us two promotions and a cup final.
Not sure though Al if its yet another manager change time but it is time to look at what is happening on the field and start having a go at the opposition and hopefully in the close season there is a change in the ethos at Latics back to playing the football our greatest ever manager Paul played.

I don’t think we need to change the manager, the manager needs to change his stubborn ways by first, stop flooding the midfield with grafters.

Either get some natural width into our game for the sole striker role he wants to play or play 2 up front because the way are midfield are set up at moment we might as well play 4-6-0 because Grigg is redundant.
Why does he see every wideman or attacking midfielder as a forward ?, first Powell then Yanic and now Obertan. The Sheffield Wednesday game spoke volumes, losing 0-1 replaces forward for forward.
His stubborn ways will send us down and it will be another rebuilding job by someone else.

Nice positivity CW. Glad to see you showing your support for the club.

Don’t think we need to be calling for Joyces head IMO.
As disappointing as it was losing to Sheff Weds, it wasn’t all down to Joyce. Warnock switched off for their goal (again!) and from what SSN said our goal that was disallowed shouldn’t have been.
He’s got a few players in now that are his choice so let’s see how we get on over the coming weeks.

                No they didn’t.
Paul Jewell openly used to talk about how he wrote games against the “big clubs” off at the start of the season & the pre-match build up was all about us having no chance. He often used those games to experiment with new formations & tactics & I’m sure that I have a recollection of him going out to Anfield with an ultra negative team & tactics when Latics were struggling even though Fulham had turned them over a few days before.
I also remember Paul Scharner giving an interview when Bruce had taken over sayign that for the first time since he’d been at the club, they were now going into games against the bigger clubs believing that they could get something out of it

Don’t get me wrong, Jewell was a legend for everything he achieved at Latics but don’t let that cloud your judgement on some of the mistakes he used to make

Latics disallowed goal was definitely offside.

That said, I agree with most of what you say. i very much doubt that Joyce is going into games telling the midfield not to back up Will Grigg & get forward in support of him.
You’re also right about Warnock – completely switched off for their goal & then did it again a few minutes later so he clearly hadn’t learnt his lesson

I’m sure Joyce ain’t saying “Don’t give it Grigg” but I know one thing, their certainly not getting it to him often enough in fact hardly ever. The only glimmer of light was when Wier came on. He was willing to run forward while in possession and was keen to pass and move the ball at pace. Hopefully he will start him and drop Perkins.

I look through the squad and why the hell have we got so many midfielders ,,,ffs , we’ve a small army of them. Obertan needs to get fit in record time or it’s a pointless him been here then Joyce can hopefully play him wide and not up front as he has kindly pointed out.

Joyce needs to be braver in his player starting 11. His system at the moment is not working, sticking by it will send us down for sure. Sorry Joyce which ever way you do it we need wins which means goals

My recollection of Obertan is that he wasn’t very good? so I’m not expecting much from him. Hope he proves me wrong.
Our transfer windows are a bit like groundhog day, a lot of midfield signings..

The lad was under tremendous pressure at united being labeled the new Ronaldo. Don’t forget the championship is a step down to where he has played previously in England.

Let’s hope he gets fit quick and is introduced at a time when he’s ready to perform at his best.

Obertan’s career has been blighted by injury after injury so don’t be holding out too much hope on him being our saviour!

The saviour could have been in the parachute payment or in the 9 million quid or so we have brought in from Yanics sale and the Utd match. We must be one of the few clubs that would risk relegation rather than our financial security. Shame others don’t follow suite then we may be competing on a more even playing field.
Our paddy field of a pitch could be a good leveler tomorrow night though.
