Is he going to be back in goal on Saturday due to us playing Bolton?
I think seeing as we are rumoured to have paid Bolton a large loan fee we would have made sure he could play in all the games
18 October 2010 at 1:10 pm #48957Apparently Kirkland will be back, the agreement between the clubs doesn’t allow Ali to play.
18 October 2010 at 1:24 pm #48958I think it is PL rules that don’t allow loanees to play against their parent club.
18 October 2010 at 2:41 pm #48961imagine if Al-Habsi saved a Bolton Penalty in the 93rd minute at 2-1 to the latics….
18 October 2010 at 2:53 pm #48962Hope Kirkland is back and keeps his place. I’m not at all convinced by Al Habsi.

18 October 2010 at 11:07 pm #48987Al Habsi has to be snapped up in January, he is just what we were looking for.
Probably sign him on January 5th I reckon

No, no sarcasm, and yes I did think he should have done better with Newcastles 2nd. The ball was in the air a long time before it got to Coloccini, and the header didn’t have that much power. A good keeper would have been getting right on top of him as he headed it. He stayed on his line, then could still have saved it. I think Kirkland would have done better there, using his size.
I accept Kirkland had been on the end of a couple too many beatings and made a couple of mistakes this season. But he’s one of the reasons we’re still in the Prem over the last 2-3 seasons, and I hope and expect him to return some time soon and be our long term keeper.
19 October 2010 at 12:55 am #48991Kirkland is barely good enough for the championship let alone relegation scrappers in the premiership. Al Habsi is a proper keeper. Someone who orders the back 4 and can actually move and go to ground when required. Old glass back has had his days but injuries have taken his career away from him. Al Habsi is Buffon compared to Kirkland piengravy

Agree with yossers comments and also pie and gravy he has served us well over 2-3 years but the back end of last season and beginning of this as not been his best times of his career we cannot carry ten men with the elenth being the GK

He looks decent based on a few games but Kirkland had a lot of credit in the bank for me. Hopefully for our sake he’ll get his form and fitness back and be the long term keeper we need. Looks like its easy for some people to forget how he has performed for us in the past.

Tunks and Filan perfomed well in the past, doesn’t mean I want them in nets on Saturday :o
19 October 2010 at 3:32 pm #49010I personally think Al Habsi looks the better of the two, but Kirkland is an excellent 2nd choice keeper.
19 October 2010 at 4:45 pm #49011Not being funny but did u see our defence in the first games that kirkland played it was a shambles. Then they got sorted just as al-habsi went in goal. So to be honest if you were to blame someone blame the defence at the start of the season and not kirkland. He can only play if his defence are organised and they certainly were not. To be fair al-habsi is a great keeper and i would love to see him stay. He has been consistent when he has played but i was watching the newcastle game and he made a few errors which on another day could of cost us the game.
Lets hope kirkland plays well against bolton and instead of slating him get behind him it’s what he needs, support
