ssn are reporting that kirkland is ok
when i watched the highlights last night on football first it does not show any contact with elamander other than their legs coming together -a close up of elamander talking to phil dowd show him saying they never touched.
i honestly think kirkland has lost the plot it – all his problems are phycological not physical, his injuries dont show up on scans -they are usually spasms – he showed last night how much he dithers when a cross comes in -he is scared stiff.
we would have lost if he had stayed on the pitchmany people on all the message forums said how bad he was when he was dropped, but i honestly thought he was just suffering lack of confidence and struggling with new players in a system alien to him, until i watched him play for leicester city when ipswich stuffed them last week and against bolton last night.
i am afraid kirkland is finished at wigan athletic.
6 January 2011 at 12:31 pm #54815He seemed to be playing OK before that, for a change.
The clash was strange. I couldn’t understand why it took him so long to sweep him up.
If it’s just in his mind, I don’t think they’d have kept him in hospital overnight.
Still, at best he’s unreliable so Al Habsi for me too.
And as well as Pollitt did, if that Elmander shot wasn’t straight at him he would have had no chance.
6 January 2011 at 1:12 pm #54820I thought he could have done better with their goal, he should have stayed up instead of going to ground like he did. He wasn’t commanding his box and he looked like he was lacking in confidence ! While I dont like to see players being stretchered off and we do now know he is ok, I do think we would have lost had he stayed on the field ! In my opinion Pollitt made at least 3 saves that Kirkland would not have dealt with.
6 January 2011 at 2:45 pm #54822I have always said he isnt a robust as he should be, maybe thats why he is reluctant coming off his line and getting a bit dirty.
I remember seeing him at Portsmouth in the season they went down when he came out of he box, ‘bumped’ into someone and stayed down
soft mardy arse
6 January 2011 at 3:32 pm #54831Having seen the incident in slow mo on sky sports new this morning, like LMB I’m at a loss to see how Kirkland managed to get knocked out from that coming together
he does eventually knock his head into Elmander’s chest but by this time the impact should have been absorbed by the clash of the legs, midrift etc..
That isn’t to say though that somet happened with his noggin that the TV cameras didn’t pick up
