Can anyone tell me what the half-time score was? I think it was 4-0 but not 100% sure.

    Cheers

I think it was 0-4 too and I think Kerry Dixon got all four. The only other time I felt that level of anti-climax was when we played Leeds in the quarter final on the windiest day in history and they strolled past us 0-2. It was a noon kick off on a Sunday if I remember correctly.

I didn’t think that Dixon go all his four in the first half, but I might be wrong.

I’m just writing a blog about the game and, funnily enough, I had just typed the exact same “anti-climax” phrase that you used to describe the afternoon.

The Chelase game was Saturday though, unless it was the Leeds game you were on about kicking off at noon.

Yes, the Leeds game was noon Sunday, Chelsea 3pm Saturday. Both games were walkovers almost.

Rumour had it, at the time, due to Leeds’s infamous fan base and high demand for tickets, the police were checking people coming off the M61 where the Reebok now is to see if they had tickets for the match and if not they weren’t being allowed into Wigan and asked to turn round.

I think I remember Roy Tunks back peddling big time in the Leeds game as one bounced, blew over his head and nestled in the back of the net.

The Chelsea game was indeed a Saturday 3pm kick off, and was in fact a replay from the previous Saturday which finished 2-2. This despite us taking an early 2-0 lead. I seem to remember Nevin scoring at Stamford Bridge (overhead??) and I think Speedie got tother at Springfield Park.

Speedie apparently got himself into a fight and was sustituted before he was sent off

Speedie could start a fight in a phone box.

Newell & jewell scored at stamford bridge & i was ecstatic at us taking a 2 – 0 lead at chelsea. Always remember the replay 26 jan 1985 as it was the date of my 13th birthday. As for the leeds match it was the only time i have ever cried after a latics match. I really thought we’d do it.

Thanks Garswood, you confirmed my hazy memory.

Oh, and Mr cock-tickler – you will really have to try much harder than that. In fact, don’t bother.
