11 January 2010 at 5:21 pm #17859Don’t want to offend anyone but the sooner we admit our crowds are sh*t the better.
Yeah we have a lot of decent fans and im not knocking them but no matter what the circumstances, 5,000 for an fa cup match against another prem side is awful, no matter if we got man united and liverpool near us its just an excuse.
All this making excuses for us just winds me up really, i find it a bit patronising, it was whale, if we get an home tie in the 5th round lets hope its a better crowd, lets just be honest for once.
I don’t think you’ve actually read the piece properly have you? If you have, and this is your response, then I’d have to conclude that you’re a bit thick.
Either that or you support another club/sport and you’re deliberately trying to wind people up.

Yeah I read it, I think we should stop makign excuses though, we used to get over 10k at springfield park for 3rd round games, it was a poor attendance, yeah it was cold and i didnt even go myself but why kid ourselves? If you think that makes me thick then its up to you i suppose.
11 January 2010 at 5:44 pm #17863Okay, sorry, maybe the thick comment was uncalled for.
However, I would not consider the facts we have nine other more established clubs close proximity, a substantial population of the town with Scouse heritage, and a professional Rugby League club competing for supporters to be mere excuses.
Yes there were ten thousand on at Springfield Park, but not just after Christmas during the coldest winter on records, with two reserve sides playing.

well nobody as asked some of the real questions WHY did people not go to the game ?
i’ll start
a couple of reasonsas you all may know i am sick of the rubbish being served up by martinez, this one man up front and letting other teams just play, without the fowards/midfield chasing down every ball and getting in the opponents faces, and this for me causes all our problems, but that in itself would not stop me going.
we were away over new year but could have come home early on saturday if we wanted to ,but despite ringing nearly every pub in north cornwall and then driving 30 miles to watch the man u game in a pub showing the game on a foreign tv station ,i was totally ashamed of the display that night and martinez’s inability to motivate his players or accept change that his system is a total failure
we decided to not bother with the hull game in protest.
11 January 2010 at 6:46 pm #17869It’s fair to assume that there were some people would have boycotted in a similar way to you Loudmouth, but it’s hardly likely to be five thousand or so.
I would have thought time of year, lack of interest in the FA Cup, expense and weather were more significant reasons. We only got ten thousand on against Arsenal in a Carling Cup Semi Final a few years back – and that could hardly be blamed on the team’s recent performances.
11 January 2010 at 7:06 pm #17877It was a perfect excuse for the typical Wigan martyr to ‘make a statement’ and avoid spending £15 in the process.
I support Wigan Athletic. If they are playing at home, I go. Simple as.

I just think its about time we get over the fact the fact that man united, liverpool or whoever play close by, there always gonan be there, i cant stand all that sympathy wigan get off the press, we have the most self pitying supporting in the premiership, maybe its to do with our ‘scouse heritage’ i dunno.
I find it embarrasing, middlesbrough got a poor crowd the same day you didnt hear them whinging about it saying newcastles only up the road or whatever, we’re gonna have to get over this if we ever want to get taken serious, not sure if anyone will agree with me or not, but thats what I think.
11 January 2010 at 7:10 pm #17880…i cant stand all that sympathy wigan get off the press, i find it embarrasing,I think you’ll find it was mockery, not sympathy, we were receiving
11 January 2010 at 7:19 pm #17882What do you mean we have to admitt our crowds are bad? In you just compare the numbers to other teams numbers then yes, they are bad, but there are mitigating circumstances around the club which help towards a lot of the reason for this, Other bigger teams etc, and they are reasons that our crowd is like that, not excuses.

The people are there just most cant be arsed going every game, yeah it’s not easy for us with we’re we are but we’re gonna have to get over that if we want to be taken serious and stop blaiming it all on the bigger clubs

So all the people who have grown up supporting Bolton, Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Everton who live in the borough of Wigan should just start supporting Wigan Athletic then?
We already have 14% of the population with a season ticket. If we increase this to 25%, we could fill the stadium every week no problem.
Or better still, let’s start producing fans in a can at Heinz? That should do it.

we are all different
i never boo poor displays or have ever done, but many who

11 January 2010 at 8:03 pm #17890Does man-flu, the comment ‘So you’re well enough to go to the football are you?’ and the prospect of actual bodily harm form a valid excuse not to attend a game?
