Happy Latics election to the football league day ,Street parties have commenced throughout the borough. Seems like five minutes ago. Remember going nuts at work when the news came through. Each game in that first season was huge ,we were playing all these ‘massive ‘ league clubs. Great memories and great memories of Springfield Park. Wish I could go back and do it all again ,what a club !
3 June 2022 at 6:10 am #196494Great day for the club and town and the buzz it created was incredible.
The club has weathered many storms but always seems to come out on top.
Another chapter starts next season and despite limited expectations I have a good feeling we will do very well.8 June 2022 at 12:02 pm #196495This was such an iconic time for probably most of us on here.
Can I ask what our favourite memories are? Apart from the come back against Port Vale
One of my favourite memories was being behind John Brown when he made 2 spectacular and match winning saves against Northampton.
Goalkeeping gloves were very soon on my Christmas list. And can anyone answer if the fans sung “John Brown in the rain” or “ Brownbill on the bench”? Or both?
To the tune of Boney M’s “brown girl in the rain”8 June 2022 at 11:11 pm #196496Early Saturday morning starts for away trips arranged night before in pub during normal Friday night sessions (wouldn’t have liked to chance a breathalyser then).
15 June 2022 at 12:25 pm #196498Many fantastic memories and a few not so fantastic.
Too many to single one, but I do love an away game with the lads. Although I generally go to every game, home and away, the ones with all my mates together are restricted to a few times a season now. But boy do we make up for it when we all get together…I have been to away games with dad for over 40 years now, great having that time with him too.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

16 June 2022 at 6:45 am #196535I was only 6 years old at the time of our admission into the league so didn’t really know the significance of that day, especially our very first home game.
Grimsby at home was my very first match. My dad & I stood at the part of the ground where those odd looking grey “things” would occupy that part of the ground many years later. I don’t remember too much about the game, but remember all the fans in & around me singing oggy, oggy, oggy & enjoying a carnival atmosphere.
A few weeks ago I had a dream where the DW was closed for repairs so we had to go back to Springfield Park to play our home games. I remember turning around to my dad & said I know it’s not the best of grounds, but it’s kinda good to be back. It is son, it sure is my dad replied.

Should silk scarves be brought back or left in the past?
