Discussion we were having on Friday about Nick Powell and concluded he is probably our must naturally gifted player ever outside of the Greed League years and probably more gifted than many of the mercenaries who plied their trade with us during that time.
Any other nominees for that accolade please give us some more suggestions.

Andy Liddell had a lot of natural ability. Like with Powell, a game was never lost with him on the pitch, you always had a chance of him pulling something out of nothing. He was great.

Nick Powell is a different type though. A bit like a Cantona type. Can score goals and has great vision. Can seem to be a passenger….then does what he did on Friday.

        Glad we have him.

Andy Liddell was an all time favourite of mine. Loved the throw ins to him when he did a spin and shot or put in a cross.

This is going to be a bit controversial but from recent times one of the most gifted players of the ilk of Powell that I can think of is Per Frandsen.
His Latics career was curtailed not long after it started, but from what I saw he looked class.

Now Mario Melchiot wasn’t bad really either but not none Greed League.

Sorry guys but why whenever a poll like this comes up do we always forget the most gifted and naturally talented played who ever played for the mighty latics. The one player who excelled in his position and once he left Springy went on to become one of the most feared strikers in English football. The forgotten man Michael J Quinn. Best player ever to wear the blue shirt. Feel free to name someone better.

I was only 6 at the time, but i’m led to believe that jeff wright was ahead of everyone else within the team during his tenure at latics.

Tony kelly had skill & could take a mean free kick.

Jeff Wright was class and can be seen at Latics matches from time to time. A lower league and non-league Glenn Hoddle.

Jeff had one huge problem, he was so much better than the rest of his team mates.

I do remember even as a child, the people who were stood around me would often get frustrated with him. I suppose he might be regarded the original jordi gomez.

On that note, i know gomez spent most of his time with us in the premier league, but he also played in the championship. So he must count as well.

Another in the same ilk as Jeff Wright was the great Kevin Langley who also was too good for his team mates.

A certain Mr Martinez was none too shabby with the natural ability factor.
