Come on – chop chop Donnelly. You’ve missed this one:
Wigan are reported to be closing in on a swoop for defender Tony McMahon, who is available on a free transfer.
McMahon ended his eight-year association with Middlesbrough when he fell out of contract at the Riverside Stadium earlier this month and a move to the DW Stadium looks to be on the cards.
Swansea have also been showing an interest in the 26-year-old, along with a host of clubs in the Championship, but Latics have fought off rival interest to land the player.
McMahon, who is predominantly a right-back, but can also play in midfield or central defence, is believed to be in the north west completing the formalities of the deal.
McMahon will become Roberto Martinez’s second signing of the summer following on from the arrival of Fraser Fyvie, while Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis is also closing in on a move.
The coaching staff must be bad with names: McMahon / McManaman, McCarthy / McArthur….rumours are we’re trawling the market for players called Barry Coldwell, John Mahoney, Emerton Bryce and Alan Hapsi.
