So despite us being the best team in the league since Xmas you would sack the Manager. Superb!
Are you surprised?
27 June 2020 at 8:45 pm #187293No. Some don’t understand the game and perhaps never will. The team has played well for the majority of the season but unfortunately performances never matched results. It takes courage to admit your wrong but as plain as the nose on your face Cook has assembled an excellent team which is currently the best team in the league on form. Why some can’t admit it I have absolutely no idea. Cook has improved us every season and has built a solid foundation going forward. To suggest otherwise is baffling.
27 June 2020 at 9:23 pm #187294At another club Cook would have have gone long ago.
But we’re not any other club. We are now reaping the benefits with our current form, and who knows where this will take us?
27 June 2020 at 10:46 pm #187298Anyway Mr Brownbill, I trust you’ll have a lot of fun this week and fly the pie flag high.
28 June 2020 at 7:12 am #187313Form of league champions at the moment! This is how you play championship football, stay tight at the back, be patient and take chances when they come.

Spot on! Long may this form continue.
28 June 2020 at 8:41 am #187316It’s hardly surprising that we struggle most seasons, since we have such a high turn around of players every summer. That’s why we have seemed to come good in the second half of the season – for a number of seasons now. I think Paul Cook alluded to this when asked about our form in his pre-Blackburn interview.
We had 11 new players come in over the summer – that’s a complete team. Some worked out, some didn’t. But the thing is that now the whole squad have gelled and adapted together to the “system” and we’re seeing the benefits of this. There’s a long way to go yet – we need to get better at finishing off the half and full chances we create, for example. However, with a large number of players out of contract once again, and maybe a couple who will be sold, we may find ourselves in this position again next season – but who knows?
Personally, I think the big change came when Windass left for Sheff Wed – perhaps the dressing room harmony wasn’t there when he was here and perhaps it would be best if we got rid to keep this team spirit going? Just my view, I could be completely wrong!
28 June 2020 at 10:09 am #187318Most teams at our level have big summer turnarounds to be fair. Cooks teams have a history of starting slowly and finishing strongly. Portsmouth got promoted that way.
It’s a fine line to be honest a lot of games earlier this season we should have won and likewise games now could have gone the other way. No doubt when we lose he’ll be cookie the clown again.28 June 2020 at 10:53 am #187319People seem to forget that Paul Cook is still learning at this level as well as most of the players and if he can take what he’s learned into next season (providing the unthinkable doesn’t happen) then I think we will be in with a good shout of the play offs at least.
Keep the faith28 June 2020 at 11:35 am #187322Still learning?
How long are we going to pander this clown? A relegation scrap every season is nothing to toss ourselves off about, Cook is out of his depth, end of!
Fuck the EFL
28 June 2020 at 11:58 am #187324You must be a wind up Bullitt? Should Wigan be competing with Leeds United, Notts Forest, West Brom etc with crowds of 9k? Have a quick look at club accounts if you need to check your answer and compare our turnover! Now Cook has got settled side its funny we are best side in league.
28 June 2020 at 12:10 pm #187326He has had almost 2 seasons now at this level. He made HUGE mistakes from October to January with his team selection, tactics, formation, his love of hoofball & so on. At most other clubs, I agree he would have gone. He probably felt that himself, as some of his post match interviews indicated a beaten man.
Things changed IMO when Moore got injured meaning he had to change his style of football, & offloading windass to Sheffield Wednesday. Performances improved & the football became better to watch. However, we still were not getting the results our performances deserved.
Then we started to pick up points, started to pick up wins & winning breeds confidence.
So yes, I think he has learned, & to an extent still is. Fair play to him I say.
28 June 2020 at 1:05 pm #187328You must be a wind up Bullitt?
He played a reserve side in a crap competition so Bullitt doesn’t like him. We could get promoted with Cook in charge and he’d still be a clown.
29 June 2020 at 9:41 am #187335The thing what some of our supporters cant get their head around is had we have sacked cook around Christmas, I believe we would still be in the bottom 3, maybe even cast adrift from the rest. Maintaining Cook has provided some stability & we are now seeing some kind of reward. We are not out of it yet – true! But a win tomorrow night & I believe we can start sleeping a lot better.

29 June 2020 at 9:56 am #187337The thing is that Cook has improved as have the players and while I thought he should have gone you have to admit he is turning it around so has to be praised for it. We have not just had a high turnaround of players but managers as well which cannot be healthy so as long as we improve and prosper on the pitch let’s give Cookie a chance and get behind him.COYL
