How many of you lot fancy Leigh. If the rumours are correct the yanks dont want the ground so paying rent at the DW is too expensive and so playing at Leigh Village is the way forward.
Little tip yankee doodle dandies,if there’s any truth you could do with asking the fans or the no fans in the stadium might carry on well after Covid ends.
And Nandy ? she seems awfully quite or is that because Wigan council own Leigh Village ? nice bit of rent.
Leigh is a nice stadium, probably the right size for us and our support but I don’t want us to leave the town, i think we would loose our identity, might as well call us leigh athletic, nice ground but not for me.
On paper sounds good but I’m afraid it will not work full stop. Were a club were everything is based on been a Wiganer. A club were you have to have played for the club to understand what were about. We are Wigan followed by Wiganers.
Let’s see how many turn up for a Rochdale game on a cold Tuesday night mid December.
Theres a ground there going for peanuts with 2 codes prepared to pay rent. Hows about this bellend of a council giving something back rather than doing Wigan Pier up every 20 years.

Seems a strange one to me. Warriors have paid rent for the last 20 years and survived. I’m struggling to see why renting wouldn’t work for the Latics, in a sport where the income streams are far higher.
The only thing I can imagine would make it unfeasible is the current lease. We all know that the Latics didnt physically pay rent, but didnt actually own the stadium, but it may have been an accounting trick where they were charged sky high rent which helped keep tax bills down for the owners of the Latics (who also happened to be the owners of the stadium). With ownership of the club and the stadium potentially being two unrelated individuals, the rent due may become a reality going forward rather than two lines on two balance sheets.
These American franchises where teams play miles from their roots won’t work here…..completely different . Not for me I’m afraid…..won’t be Wigan if we’re not playing in Wigan. Logistics a nightmare……wouldn’t get home for midnight on a Saturday and as for midweek games……..be empty….F@@@ me how did we get to this sorry state ???
I would rather we play at Leigh than end up with a phoenix club. No interest in supporting a new club.
It has made me laugh though that all the abuse aimed at rugby fans when we played at Leigh about it being in the same borough, being 2 minutes away, fattys won’t travel on 2 bus journeys etc has now changed to it’s a different town, miles away, no public transport routes.
We are Wigan Athletic not feckin Leigh. I’m totally baffled how it has come to this re the stadium. 3 mill is stealing it and I’m so surprised and shocked Mr Whelan hasn’t come in for it at that price if only to keep the name and his statue. Someone buys it charges both clubs the same on rent and upkeep a nice little business it you can put other activities on there as well. FFS somebody buy the bloody thing.
I’ve watched Latics for over 50 years,
I never thought we would end up like this.I’ve nothing against Leigh, but I don’t think Leithers would play in Wigan,
at the DW Stadium or somewhere else in Wigan.The boundary changes may say Leigh is in Wigan, but ask a few people in Leigh
and they are insulted when they are called Wiganners.It was the same when Wigan Rugby said they would not share a ground with us
and they would play at Bolton, but Bolton said to Wigan Rugby they could only play
so many matches at Bolton in a season.Then they had to crawl to DW to play at the JJB Stadium.
This recent takeover has been a F-Up from day one, with this Admin,
we are going round in circles all the time, we have been left with F-All.A Sunday league club, has more stability than us,
that’s how far we have fallen,
it’s a crying shame!The people of Wigan won’t go watching us in our own town so they deffo won’t travel out of town to watch us, the people of leigh hate everything wigan, i know i work with um, so we’re not going to gain new fans, might be fun with a couple of hundred wigan lads knocking about leigh Town centre on a Saturday neet though.
That will be the end of my season ticket if we have to travel to Leigh.

Nor will I be inclined to support a phoenix club !Pissed off with all the greed in the English leagues, so I might occasionally pop on the train in Preston and start following Rangers (really enjoyed our day out there, in July 2018).
It’s a hard pill to swallow absolutely. I’m surprised how quiet dave Whelan has been about this shenanigans after he said he was gona look into it.
If we ever leave the DW I’m going down there with a chisel. I want my bricks from the Wall of Hope I paid for!

Therefore, on the eve of the new season, this Friday 11th September, we – as a broad collective of Wigan Athletic fans – will picket Begbies Traynor HQ in Central Manchester. The aim of the demonstration is to put a spotlight on the actions of Gerald Krasner, Paul Stanley, and Dean Watson, to get clear answers explaining why agreements haven’t been reached with what appear to be serious bidders, and to raise more awareness of the plight of our club. Wigan Athletic is dying, we cannot sit back and let that happen.
We will assemble in St Peter’s Square, Manchester, M2 5PD (outside the library) at 11.30am this Friday before a demonstration outside Begbies Traynor HQ at 340 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 4LY (opposite the entrance to Beetham Tower/Hilton Hotel). Please remember to be mindful of social distancing guidance. The demonstration will be peaceful, but we will seek direct answers to direct questions.
