Delort will be banging them in soon enough, Dicko is and Riera thought good enough to play up front on his own against Barcelona of all teams in the best league in the world.

Only good enough for a bit int Latics reserves though eh? Says more about our management and backroom teams to me and them not having a clue, possibly only playing their favourites.

Will you stop banging on about Delort!

Yes, he will be scoring goals again – back in the French second division because he wasn’t good enough to make it over here.

There hasn’t exactly been a clamour of clubs looking to sign him from us has there?
I’m taking it that you have extremely poor eyesight otherwise you’ll have seen how poor Delort has been.

He’s started or come on as a sub in 11 games, and not once have I thought he showed anything that might suggest he’ll turn out to be a good signing. He looked, cocky, greedy and too lightweight – in my opinion, obviously, but I’m not a football genius or gifted judge of potential – unlike yourself.

Dicko was deemed not good enough by Martinez, Coyle and Rosler. So all three of them were clueless?

Dean Saunders didn’t rate him Wolves first time round and only used him a handful of times as a sub. Also for a majority of his time at Blackpool he was used as a sub by Holloway.

Hardly glowing references, but well done to him for scoring goals so many at Wolves. That’s the way it goes sometimes. A bit like Ellington with us compared to when he went to West Brom.

And so what if Riera played up front on his own against Barcelona. Deportivo are 14th in La Liga – so they’re currently on a par with the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace or West Brom. Adrian Lopez and Albert Crusat both played regularly in La Liga – and they were roaring successes at Wigan weren’t they?

(Incidentally, weren’t you criticising Wigan for playing Riera up front by himself – despite him having played as a lone striker for most of his career?)

And as for that comment about Wigan managers only playing their favourites…..

You do realise it’s not an under 9s team don’t you? The manager isn’t there to give everyone a game so they keep turning up on Sunday mornings. Of course they play their favourites. They do whatever they think is necessary to bring out the best in their squad – even it means dropping a technically excellent player on the basis that his attitude or personality is disruptive. That’s the way it works.
I don’t know why you bother responding to this idiot Jonny.
Idiot?

Sammy, please don’t get all big and brave behind a keyboard because we rarely agree. I can’t recall calling you any names or suchlike.

It says more about you than me and to be honest I’ve got hands like spades not a mouth like a bucket.

As for Delort not being bombarded with offers Loudmouthblue has it spot on and it negates your argument Standish. I merely use Delort amongst others as an example of our failings in utilising goalscorers to the best of their ability.

As I’ve stated previously, I hope they don’t do that with our 5ft 7″ new striker and the journeyman Clarke.

I can’t see how this factual argument, can bring along such a rant disagreeing with it.
I’d forgotten about that FIFA rule, however it negates only the comment insinuating that nobody wanted to buy him, the rest of the post is still valid.

There hasn’t exactly been a clamour of clubs looking to sign him from us has there?

That could be explained by the fact most all clubs that may have been possibly in the market for him know that because of the number of clubs he has played for this season he cannot play for anyone else other than us or his old club tours.
Fair point. I forgot about that.

I stand by the rest of my post though.
I have no argument as far as anything else is concerned, I watched him when he came on and wondered had I missed something when others were raving about him on social media sites, I just put it down to the fact I always find it harder than most to except the ability of new players until I judge them over a prolonged period and the fact that he had not had much of a run, plus we were/are crap in all other areas of the field on top of everything else he had to contend with.

Dicko didnt do much for us but it worked at wolves thats how football goes

That might have something to do with him never actally playing for us ……. simliar to Riera and Delort

do you go actually go to games ???
That is a fair point you make CW. Didn’t see much of him but seem to remember him playing in the last game of the season at home (can’t remember who against) and thought he looked half decent, he had pace and knew how to find space.
Thought it was premature us getting rid of him considering scoring goals was a problem for us at that time.

This Leon Clarke has had a lot of clubs, hope he isn’t a bit troublesome.. His goal scoring record doesn’t look too bad and he likes to score on his debut. Let’s hope he does for us
Troublesome? Bust-up with Di Canio while at Swindon and then kicked out of the club. Maybe it isn’t clear who the troublemaker was in that case.

Looking at his CV he doesn’t appear to be a saint, but as we’ve only got him on loan for a few months he should have something to prove and we may benefit.
Couldn’t see part of this post DL. don’t know anything about this lad to be honest but looking at all the clubs he’s had on WAFC website tells a story I think?
His goal scoring record is half decent so lets hope we do benefit!

Well I thought this was an idiotic enough statement to make to justify the claim but maybe I’m being too “loyal”. I’m sure the management and backroom staff do have a clue and are fully aware of the calibre of players at their disposal but perhaps you might want to go down there and point them in the right direction.

To me this is a pointless argument because it is between a fan with opinions, who is not afraid to criticise his club when he feels fit to do so and the other is a fan who has never said a bad word about his club who would make a good spin doctor! Neither will back down and so this is going nowhere……Again!
I have to admit that I do find it odd how some think it is the norm to drop like a stone and that it is nothing out of the ordinary! You should read the link I put up with the relegation from The Prem stats that I put up the other day. I don’t think that we have a God given right to be in The Prem but there is nothing to say that we can’t compete in this division! This transitional period and clear out does appear to be quite unconfined and just goes to show how bad MM’s predecessors actually were despite getting the usual ‘Full Support’ from the blind faith when others suspected that things were going awry!

                      Idiot

To me this is a pointless argument because it is between a fan with opinions, who is not afraid to criticise his club when he feels fit to do so and the other is a fan who has never said a bad word about his club who would make a good spin doctor! Neither will back down and so this is going nowhere……Again!

                      I’m confused.
Where’s the blind faith bit Phil?

Of course there’s something wrong within the team – or we wouldn’t be second from bottom. My argument with Tez is about Delort, Dicko and Riera.

Sammy’s argument is as a result of his comment on my post.

It was a bit tongue in cheek Jonny! Tez has an opinion and Sammy just seems happy regardless and always defends the club/manager or whatever! Some folk on here are saying that going down again so soon is normal and the stats clearly show that whilst not being impossible it is far from normal! The clubs that have dropped like a stone before have been clubs in dire straits financially and we are far from that! This ‘Little Wigan’ mentality and anti ‘Johnny Comes Lately’ attitude stinks if you ask me! The so called massive rise in attendances due to the JCL’s has benefited this relatively small club so much and the same trend would and has happened at all clubs in the same situation as we were!
I really do think that similar to me and my ‘Underground music scene’ tastes that some fans really are hankering for the old days when it was sort of cool and different to like an unfashionable club like Wigan! The football hipsters will be well and truly gone when we drop again and the return of good old football debate should return when people can actually say ” well that was fuckin shit today ” instead of just thinking that we are punching above our own weight! Or……Maybe there are some fans out there who want us back in non league football, now that would be uber cool ! :)

Back to the subject , I just hope he comes in and proves himself (his words not mine) and bangs us a few goals in but for that he will need the help of the midfield.

Do we still have one ??

Sammy isn’t happy at all Fil, in fact he is exceedingly disappointed that his team is second from bottom of the league. What Sammy is objecting to is the constant criticism of the club by those who seem to have all the answers and witter on and on about it like a stuck record.

There is no hidden agenda at the club excluding any player from a first team start, no one is being favoured above anybody else and the manager and his staff are not clueless. The likes of Delort and Riera were not good enough. End of. If I could see it from the odd times they were tried I’m damn sure professional football people could see it working with them almost everyday.

If these players were any good they’d be starting every week and adapting to whatever system the manager decides to play. It’s not like the “one up front” format is exclusive to Wigan Athletic.

Maybe there were some bad apples in the squad and maybe that has now been addressed. We’ll have to wait and see.
