We come on here, we moan, we criticize, we condemn.

But if you have a spare 10 mins, have a listen to this rant by Robbie Savage, who has a right go at the local radio fella from BBC Radio Derby. He says it seems they “want Derby to fail”.

I nicked this from Yeoldetreeandcrown, but hope they don’t mind me putting it on here, as Savage’s passion and defence of his team and club deserves respect and praise,

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal … 453055.stm

Are there people on here who WANT us to fail? I’m sure most of us have the right intentions, but with some, you have to wonder.

Spot on Vat….there are some of our so-called fans who would rather see us fail than make a go of things, I’m absolutely convinced that a number of our supporters arent happy unless they can have a legitimate moan about all things Latics.

It’s like these last few days. People were moaning we weren’t looking like signing anybody.
Then we get linked with an Argentinian striker, and people start moaning that we were paying too much!

          Have a word with yourselves!

I moan as much as anybody, but my hearts in the right place. I don’t like us losing or failing due to slackness or stupidity, that’s all. And we are our own worst enemies, far too often.

Vat….what do you mean these last few days?

You know as well as most others, I’ve been around this board for quite a while………….and seen them all (and I include you and your other guises there chap). However, it is what is said that is important.

Go back a while…….fishing, cards, drinking; oh and a bit of football and it was great. Necessary change (pro-boards were always the sinclair zx81 of the forums) meant we had to adapt…….competition became commonplace and those with their own interests and, dare I say, click rate, needed to get their readership up. We find that ‘collective others’, the trolls, and you (and your ‘friends’……..lol ;) )……actually contribute greatly to the readership here.

Other sites can be so sycophantic…….their convivial backslapping borders on sexual deviance at times; others just go round and round and round……..you get the picture.

Me……I enjoy your many ‘styles’ and the multi’s, I feel, actually add to a growing and entertaining board. Moaning, rejoicing, calling, thanking…..even profiling makes for people coming on here to check responses to additions…….human nature can’t help themselves.

So yes……a little diverse to the loyalty you asked for the team (for me that has always been a given) how about a little loyalty to this board and those that moderate us all.

Keep it diverse and controversial; multi (yes I suppose if it floats your boat and is funny) non-offensive (as it already is) and entertaining.

PS…birds can also have a say with their fella’s permission…

            PPS……I have always been MickyC…….and no-one else.

“wanting to fail” Im not sure if thats the case but understandable to us owd uns who have been fans for donkeys. If we get relegated ill be distraught but ill soon get over it I personally hate the prem and what it stands for but we will still be in the championship and at a really good level. Ive said on here before it will hurt our younger fans more who were not around during our non-league/ lower league days for obvious reasons. We are all fans at the end of the day and we all have different opinions but im sure we all will remain Wigan Athletic fans whatever the outcome. Its what makes us different from anybody else. Stick 2 fingers up to the rest and say “im Wigan and im proud”

                NuneatonLatic, I disagree.

I think it will hurt the likes of myself more, who has seen the club progress from the bottom to the top. After dreaming about it, then living the dream, it would be heart breaking to see us throw it all away.
Your younger fans who aint got a clue about the clubs history etc, rather than hurt them they probably just wont come again were as I will be there as normal to witness what ever the future holds.

So you’re saying that you and they are fans of the Premier League, not of Wigan Athletic?

They come to see Wayne Rooney or Torres or whoever, not our players??

They are excited by seeing Chelsea or Man City or Everton, but not Nottingham Forest, or Blackpool or Rochdale?

I went earlier in the season to watch Accrington play Crewe – and it was a cracking game. Gutted that I missed Yeovil (a team I haven’t seen) at Tranmere the other night. I’m a football fan. Not a fan of the Premier League.

Happy that we’re there. Hope we stay there. Won’t lose sleep if/when we’re not there.

Ticslad, the point i was trying to make is that our young fans who have only seen Championship/Premier league Latics have had to put up with the constant “small club no fans no history” bollox like the rest of us but havent had the enormous pleasure of seeing the club overtake the so called massive clubs on our historic rise thru the divisions pi..ing off all and sundrae. If a glory hunting Man Ure or Liverpool fan asks a young Wigan fan “what success have you seen watching that rubbish?” what does he say? Let him ask me the same question. I think im very lucky to have been a fan of over 40 yrs ive seen it all i dont want us to get relegated of course not but if it happens ill get over it i will be able to answer the innevitable bile from other fans. Will our young supporters?

I agree with what you say Nuneaton.
What us oldies have witnessed since the old NPL days is unbelieveable.
Fans of other small clubs just dream about it, we have lived that dream and been part of a history making event.
I, like a lot of people am not impressed with the PL package, but I don’t want to see us go down either. However, in the event of it happening we will still be there.
We need a few more seasons of this PL malarky to build the fanbase and make all these youngsters love WAFC as we do, and hopefully they too will stick with us should we hit harder times.

Perhaps this could become the dictionary definition of a Superfan ;)

If I hadn’t seen such riches I could live with being poor…………..

There is the problem, we’ve been spoilt although those complaining about us not challenging for European football are continuing to act like spoilt brats. Latics were always a tinpot team who played crap football, the odd non league giant killing and the early league days and then the young team built by McNally but between that in an rl town (soz but it was true) we always struggled. We were 92nd in the league in the 90’s and if that situation had remained we would have folded with a wimper unlike burnley who had 16000 turn up when faced with same situation.

We’ve done well the last few years to build up a decent fanbase. Trouble is half of them are now proving that they arent true fans at all, as soon as we’re not winning games or not playing the right football, they are moaning and buggering off. Well f*ck off then and go support United or Liverpool or whoever it was before. They’d rather come on here and moan about it to all and sundry rather than actively support the club to help it get through. We might get our club back one day when they’ve gone but it will be at a lower level of football. Sadly we need all this lot to even get 15-16k fans through at home despite their ungrateful and petty attitude. Compare us to Stoke, they fill their ground and make a racket, get behidn their team even though their football is shyte. They back their team but I’ve not heard many Stoke fans saying `I’m not coming again unless we get into Europe next year`

Some people on here have need a reality check, if they don’t get their own way they’ll scweam and they’ll scweam and they’ll scweam you know

Some of us are just grateful weve even got a football club and i ain’t no happy clapper

Just a few points in reply to the last post:
                  1) Not everyone who is complaining about the dross we have been served up for the most part this season is a JCL who has only been following Latics since we made the top flight or at a push the Championship
                  2) It is the right of every fan of every club to moan his arse off at whatever he/she sees fit. As someone else has pointed out on a thread elsewhere on this board the average attendance has actually increased this year at home. Yes away attendances have slumped but you can blame any combination of lack of funds, to poor performances to other priorities. I don’t go anywhere as near as much as I used to (home or away) but I’ve done my time so to speak. Its a fact of football that the better a team plays the more people are prepared to depart with their hard earned to go & see it particularly away from home. When we were rock bottom of the entire football league you didn’t hear the 30 odd at Hereford for Barrow’s first game whinging at the stay aways & telling em they weren’t proper fans
                  3) I have not read anywhere on here people “complaining about us not challenging for European football”. People (true fans or not) want to see their team progress year or year & not stagnate or (as is the case this season) go dramatically backwards
                  4) Likewise I’ve not heard or read any latics fan stating “they aint coming unless we get into Europe next year”
                  5) “They’d rather come on here and moan about it to all and sundry rather than actively support the club to help it get through” – And how do you propose people actively support the club to help em get through it?? Those who are going aren’t openly abusing Bobby or the players but paying their cash, going & supporting when the situation allows. They then come on here & moan about what they feel is going wrong – far better that than to blindly accept it coz “things have been far worse” or “if we get relegated it aint the end of the world”

                  just my twopenneth

                  #20327

Fingers crossed the positive and negative posters on here are all at the game tomorrow and support the team, its the only way we can make a difference. The rest is all just opinion, which we are all entitled to, !

                  #20342

Fair play Tyldesley I respect your opinion I just don’t understand it

                  What do you want?
And how do you propose to make it happen?

Short of a time machine to take us back to the start of the first season or last season when Valencia, Palacios, Zaki were firing all cylinders and Bruce had us playing a high tempo game. This isn’t going to happen, Bruce walked and much of the money received was banked or used to pay off debts. Absolutely loads of people on here have either said they’ve stopped going or aren’t happy because the team has been weakened but then it always did ( 1985-87 a whole team went )and it always will be. When we were in the bottom division when we struggled for cash and were getting beat every week the difference was that the likes of Rochdale, Bury, hereford etc were in the same boat. There is noone in the same boat as us a premier league club. We have the smallest fan base, lowest wage budget and a chairman who has done well in the past but has now reached his limitations in terms of funding a football club. It’s 99% about the money in the premier league and only 1% about the fans. The only clubs we are better off than in terms of money are Burnley and Pompey and that only recently and both of those have ten times the history and tradition we have and come from passionate footballing towns, whereas half our town actievly hates us. Their fans turn up week on week to home games to make a noise and support their team to try and get the points needed to win the game and stay in the division. Ours just moan about everything and anything. I’m sorry if you don’t like Bob’s football but it’s certainly nothing worse than what Bruce served up during the 2nd half of last season. You say you’re behind him, if you are you should be congratulating him for keeping the smallest club in the premier league out the relegation zone. It wasnt pretty Wednesday night but some of us do see what he is trying to do even when it doesnt work, some of us use our brains as well as our eyes watching football.
Would you rather have Big Sam in charge, spending the whole game hitting it long and trying to win set pieces to lump it into the box? Or do you believe we aren’t spending enough on players and you’d like to convince Whelan should attempt to find another hundred million to sign better players and pay them £80k a week like Pompey did

Yes you are entitled to moan but statements like `we have gone dramatically backwards` are ridiculous. We’re in 14th place, are you saying that you wouldn’t take 14th place at the end of the season? Do you seriously expect little Wigan Athletic to finish consistently in the top ten every season, thereby making us one of the top ten clubs in the country?

I’d love to see that as I’m sure you do but i can understand the reasons why we are where we are in the pecking order, we are a championship club ( with non league backroom but thats another story ) punching above our weight. Nothing sycophantic or blinkered about that statement, just realistic
